How much do you make? is it a rude question?

Yearly and in USD. You don’t have to give a number answer, but maybe answer my two questions below?

I understand this is a very personal question, but I’m very curious and I disagree that it is inherently “rude” to ask.

If you make less than average, are you secretive about how much you make?

If you make above average, are you secretive about how much you make?

$0-$20,000 17
$20,000 plus 8
$40,000 plus 3
$60,000 plus 1
$80,000 plus 4
$120,000 plus 2
$160,000 plus 0
$200,000 plus 4
It’s a rude question 6
It’s not rude, but I won’t answer 3

I earn approx 22usd per hr. I could have asked for more, but I'd rather have clients I like working for. Min 33hrs a week but it's usually 40. Being self employed/contractor does mean if I don't work, I don't earn, but I think it's worth it.

My outgoing costs aren't too high...insurance and education comes in under 500 a year...travel is about 40 a week...miscellaneous deductibles prob 150-200 a year, depends. Tax is 500-600ish a month iirc. Idk, I have a good accountant. Not bad all up, I'm happy.

I feel telling everyone how much you can put you at risk... If you make a lot of money, you can become a target for thieves and scammers.

If you make very little money, people look down on you and don't respect you.

So I won't tell you how much money I have exactly, but I will say I'm doing good. I sell cars for a living and have my own small business. On Saturdays I have a part-time job driving a bus for extra spending cash. I don't really need the weekend job, but I do it cause it's fun, easy and I get 500 Euro a month I'm free to waste on whatever I want.

I live in a 3 room, 70 square meter apartment with my girlfriend (I rent it)
I don't have any loans to pay off, I own 4 older cars (3 Mercedes from the 2000s and a 1984 BMW) and one newer 2017 C350e Mercedes. I'm financing the C350e.

So I'm not poor, but I'm also not mansion and flybridge yachts rich... Doing ok.

Parents are rich and I still am relying on them a lot financially but I definitely make less than 20k a year. Probably around 5-7k right now maybe more since I just got a raise :)

I was always taught that this question is extremely rude. Similarly I was always taught that asking someone how much their house is worth is very rude (or even whether they own or rent). However I have noticed that younger generations seem to be much more open about this. I think it's just one of those things that has shifted over time.

What is sad though is some people brag about their income but in the same breath talk about how broke they are.

This is a question that deems inappropriate in a lot of conversations.

Unemployment in the UK is £318 a month, but the first month's payment is classed as a loan so you end up with like 260 after repayments

    When you poor: how rude
When you rich: oh I make...
when you wealthy: more then I can spend

Did 1.9 million in Rubles this year, which is somewhere in the 30k range of usd. 70 hours on duty with 5 days on base a week. No idea how much I paid in taxes, partner handles that.

Mortgage is paid off, cars are paid off, no insurance costs, no education bills, phone and internet is free, 80% of our food is hunted or grown by us or our neighbors leftover crops, no water bill.

Only pay for electricity and gas for the house, animal care costs, court bills, and the girlfriend’s tooth doctor (forgot the English word) schooling. Honestly no clue how much money I have or where it goes, I have her figure that out

You should keep track too from time to time my friend. You never know what can happen. She could have amnesia and forget about everything or worse.

Thaaaats true, but numbers make my head spin. She has everything in a book too I think, but I should probably learn to do it myself to take the pressure off her anyway

People should talk more often about how much they’re paid.

It's not a rude question, it's one that leaves people vulnerable both on the lower end and upper end. If you make a lot, you open yourself up to thieves. If you make little, you open yourself up to vultures who could take advantage.

I work 3 jobs plus a side gig, that's all anyone needs to know.

You should change your screen name to stupid, not silly. There are plenty of opportunities to attack me here. My mental health hospitalization isn't one of them, and it has fuck all to do with this thread.

You faked the whole thing pretended to be another person. It put people who actually need help in a bad light. If you have 3 jobs and a side gig you should be to busy for that shit

Drivers do. Its a 4 year progression once you become a driver. On the 4th year you top out at around 38 an hour for feeders and 36 for package car. You get a raise after top out too when the contract dictates. In the next 4 years it will be 40 an hour. Its a good job with a union. Easy to get on but its more of a career job because it take seniority to get the good jobs. Depending on what hub you work at you can be a driver in around 1-5 years.

75c a minute in the job I'm contracted to; $1.50 a minute when I'm working for myself, plus Disability Support Pension. That's Australian currency, by the way.

I would think no one would want to answer because -

If you make little, it is embarrassing and people say, "I do not see how you make it..."

If you make at least a fair income, people will either ask to borrow money OR make a remark like "You make (however much) but all you have is that old house/car/etc?"

In most cases, someone's finances is just not a good topic to ask about.
