How much hours do you work per week...?

... And after how much hours is it considered as overtime?

I am wondering what is the norm. Where I live it depends on the industry you work in but in most it is between 35-40 hours.

I work 33 hours a week. Normally working overtime is considered when the employee works more than 40 hours a week (for most industries).

Not many, to be honest. Officially, at my job, I work only 15 to 17 hours a week. I do have private students (I'm a teacher - EFL) but not many, just the ones I really like and/or who pay me really well.

I go to work 40 hours a week but if Im being honest I really only "work" about 5 there. I'm only a temp so no one gives a shyt. anything over 40 is overtime for us

    • I can understand. Nobody should be working that much. Really!

Yeah, where I come from it's overtime when it's over 40. I do 40 a week and rarely do overtime due to how crazy the managers get when someone is about to go over 40. XD

    • I refuse to do overtime too because I would have to work 7 hours for 'free' before actually starting to get paid for overtime.

  • I work 105 to 112 hours per week but I can get off for 14 days after I've worked 30 days straight. I don't get paid overtime ever and always have to work during the holiday season.

In the USA overtime is paid over 40 hours and some companies pay time and a half for holidays.

      • Actually, yes. For some reason theres at least 2 other oilfield workers on here and one left last year. Apparently we oilfield workers like to congregate here.

    • Here every employee is entitled to 21 days sick leaves, 16 casual leaves and about 25-25 vacation leaves per year. The accumulated sick leaves is reimbursed at the rate of 1.5 if not utilised. Casual leaves do not accumulate and you lose the unused days at the end of the year. The vacation leaves can be accumulated over years but cannot exceed 250 days. Paid vacation leaves. Pension plan is obligatory for all.

I am a car dealership manager so I'm at work for 8 hours, 5 days a week, but I rarely do actual work for more than 3-4 hours in a typical workday...

For the rest of my workday I manage my own business, a cleaning/ gardening company and in any free time I have, I watch videos, chat with friends, or play gta IV.

Retail. I hate every second of it but since I dont have a car I can't do better and I can't put money aside for a car since I make minium wage. It's a bit of a rut haha. Doesn't help I need to get a license still wich is without a doubt my own fault. But yea fun stuff.

        • Nobody should be working that much for minimum wage.

Sometimes I think retail is downright abuse. Do you at least get overtime pay for gor the hours over forty that you are work?

Yes thank god. So it brings it to like 12 something I think. I'm always offering to do more over time to the point in annoying the hell out of my bosses but its like I'm seeing them struggling to make the schedule and im like hey I dont have a life and need money use me haha. But yes retail is. A store 2miles away is paying 12 an hour starting no experince needed. It's insane, but im from north dakota where everything is flat and now I'm in Michigan were everything somehow manages to be uphill almost all the way both ways and it's like nope can't walk that. After a month or 2 I'll be like fudge this.
