How much ibuprofen is ok (arthritis hip pain)

Once in a while it's okay to take multiple aspirins in the same day. If done for too long it can cause liver problems and stuff depending on the ingredients. I'm not too familiar with Ibuprofen specifically as I have other preferences but it's always risky regardless of the kind. Not to mention you can get dependant on them so that your pain worsens when you don't take them at least with headaches but can probably happen with hip pain as well. Wouldnt surprise me.

It is possible to overdose on ibuprofen, but it's less dangerous than paracetamol, which can seriously screw up your liver in high doses.

I seriously doubt if you taking three ibuprofen tablets rather than two will cause any serious issues, but you need to also think about how much you're taking in a day. The body requires time to metabolise the substance, and even if the recommended dose is two pills, there's obviously a huge difference between taking two pills once a day and two pills every three hours or something.

sweetone mentions taking ibuprofen (such as Advil in the States) with paracetamol (Tylenol). This might be something you could look into, since my understanding is that the two medications are dealt with by the body in different ways, so there's less chance of an adverse reaction.

I suggest you do some online research, find out what the maximum recommended daily dose is for your chosen analgesic, and be guided by that. For what it's worth, I've always found that a dose of alcohol takes the edge off pain than hasn't been dulled by an analgesic, and it's a pretty good sedative last thing at night too. But my serious drinking days are long since past, so just a single shot of liquor goes straight to my head. Your mileage may vary.

Sometimes I've taken 4 (800 mg) and 1,000 mg of Tylenol at the same time. Feel better.
