How often do you wipe down your gym bench?

I feel guilty at the student rec center if I don't spray and wipe down any bench after I use it. But it takes time to walk over to that small desk in the corner waaaaaaay at the back of the gym to get that damn bottle of sanitizer and a cloth towel to wipe down a bench even after I lay on my own towel on the bench. But, dammit, I know I'm supposed to, so I do.

What about you guys? Anyone brave enough to flaunt gym rules?

After each session at a bench. 15

Sometimes--depends on if others can see me. 6

What? Since when am I everybody's maid? 14

Most of the time I do. Similar to your situation, the spray and towels are in far and inconvenient places in the gym, but I will always go and get it so I can clean the machine I was using. However, if within the time it takes me to get the spray and towels and return to the machine someone else has already began their reps, I will not interrupt them so I can clean it, it's now their problem.

"...it's now their problem." Love it!

We sit on chairs in public places all the fucking time, why do we have to be so gay about it in the gym.

I can see it now. A 2017 public health campaign to get everyone who uses the bus or train to sanitize their space before leaving. ;)

I do it before and after using equipment becos I don't know if the last person was nice enough to do the right thing or not. Its not that big a deal to carry sanitizing supplies with you from station to station all this talk about how inconvenient it is to walk to the otherside of the gym... aren't you there to exercise?

Exercise, yes. And get out as quickly as I can. I'd have less of a problem cleaning up if more people did it. At my gym, at least. Like putting back plates. I get to a machine someone else has just used. I remove his/her plates. Clean up the bench after him/her. Put my plates on. Clean station after I'm done. Take my plates off. Gets tiring after a dozen stations. JMOT.

I think the 'if more people did it' part is interesting. I do it when I get to a station becos I want it to be clean for me. I do it when I'm done becos its the right thing to do. What other ppl do or don't do isn't a factor in my liking things clean or being a good citizen at the gym. I look at the things that have to be done to stay fit as just part of the price I have to pay to look good. I don't really like brushing or flossing my teeth but I want to keep them so I do it its the price to keep them nice.

I respect your perspective, though I don't share it myself. Of course, the circumstances of our gyms may be different enough to motivate different evaluations of what's right or appropriate. No, I am not interested in spending time wiping down every single station before every set and after, for an average of four times per station, as others work in. The time this adds to my time in the gym accumulates too much for me.

And I don't know what constitutes "the right thing to do." Seems a malleable concept to me.

          Cheers.
