How old would someone have to look to call them middle aged?

For example if they're 40 but they look 30, would you say they're middle aged?

And if someone was 40 and looked 50 would you call them middle aged?

Do you define it more by looks than the actual number? Or is it the number?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

age has nothing to do with looks, some at 20 look old, some at 50 look a lot younger

It's by looks for me. Someone who looks old but not elderly so like 55+. I'd never in a million years call a 40 year old middle aged.

No, it depends on their actual age.

40s. I've met 40 year olds who look 30 but they're still middle-aged. You call someone who's 20 an adult as well, even if they look 16.

For me I don't think 40s is middle aged enough. I know literally it's middle aged so it would be 40s but it seems to young to be the stereotypical middle aged. Middle aged people to me look old but not yet elderly it's like right before you're elderly so I think it's 50s and 60s

I define it by the number. If they're 45 and look 30, they're still middle aged, but just look good for their age.
