One trick that's worth a try is, get into the habit of checking your watch (or just look at your wrist or hand) during the day. But make sure to look at it twice.
So, look once and take note of its appearance.
Then look away. Then look at your hand again. Do this any time you think of it, just implant that habit in your mind.
It sounds dumb, but once it's a regular habit then it's very likely that you'll do it in a dream as well. But in a dream, things change all the time. So the second time you look at your hand/wrist/watch, it will look different. You'll know something's up and probably figure out that you're dreaming. Then, voila. You're in a lucid dream.
I know it sounds like bullshit some kid made up after watching inception. But I think it's a good trick.
Honestly? I think you should not put any effort at all into lucid dreaming. Focus on REAL LIFE. Sleep to get energy, not to have fun. That's what I think.
Get a job. Get hobbies. Get some new friends. Get a romantic partner (if you experience romantic attraction). Enjoy yourself irl
I accidently taught myself how. I was constantly checking the time and saying dumb shit like "this is [insert day, time, and year]. This is life" At some point I found myself doing that in my dreams and realised I was dreaming since the time in my dreams was never consistent.
Why the obsession with this? What are you looking for in this lucid dream you wish to have?
I wish I could do this on command too. I've only ever had a LD once a few months ago.
I wish I knew. Even after all this time, I've had extremely limited success.
