How valid is astrology

Guys help me, I have fallen down the rabbit hole and found my astrological chart. I am seeing forums where people talk about this like it's a science. I am making interpretations about my personality and future based on things in this chart. I am saying, of course I fell for a fucking capricorn because that is my "node" (!!!) whatever the hell that really even means...

Tell me how dumb I am being, or at least what you know about having the sun in leo, rising gemini, and moon in taurus ;P

There was once a woman carrying twins, and the heavens were all but identically aligned at their times of birth.

One died minutes after being born. The other one was Elvis Presley.

Have fun with it if you want, but understand that it's demonstrably bullshit.

I don’t believe astrology is legit but it’s fun to learn and talk about our signs

If you feel like having fun with it, have at it, but don't take it seriously. It's just random shit.

How valid is astrology? It isn't! People are shaped by their experiences, culture and upbringing not by accidents of birth.

Astrology was the first personality theory back before we understood anything about genetics or the effects of environment. It’s only good for fun today. If you hide the names of the signs, some of any of the horoscopes will make sens for you.

I thought astrology was the reading the of the stars to guide you forward like a map. Well damn. On that note if you want to know how valid it is just talk to a Wiccan. I'm sure after a few minutes with them you'll see why it's just silly

The zodiac part and letting it run your life is a little overboard, however there are a lot of areas effected by the planets and stars.

Already pointed out farmers use it, the moon effects tides and water tables, there are people that get sick without sunshine and it's not just the vitamin D3, full moon effects animals, eclipses effect things as well. So who am I to say stars don't effect me personally.
I would just say have fun with it.

I suggest you take some time out from reading about astrology and educate yourself about the cognitive biases that everyone is prone to slip up on. Confirmation bias is particularly relevant in this case.

Since I'm the complete opposite of my star sign, I don't believe in it at all. You should get to know a person before judging their personality based on their star sign.

it's fun and completely fine to believe in if you don't actually rely on it/use it for real life decisions imo

I don't put much stock in astrology, and I can't tell you how valid it is, or isn't, but I DO enjoy being a Scorpio, and the mystique that comes with it.

I honestly don’t know how real it is lol. I just hate the fact that I have a slight belief in it smh

In that sense, I see it. But most of the time I’ve found it to be invalid. But I can see common traits after getting to know someone.

However the COOLEST part about astrology, is that every ancient culture used it to manage seasons for agricultural. AKA the whole thing that keeps humans alive. So yes, it’s clearly beneficial to monitor the stars.

Maybe the internet and over misinformation saturates the topic.

"But I can see common traits after getting to know someone." There's a scientific name for that phenomenon, but I can't remember what it is. The general idea, though, is that you make general statements that could apply to anyone.

    • I did not know that about farmers using it, that's interesting. I guess that's one thing that we humans as a species and all of our cultures have always had in common throughout time, the planet we're standing on and the planets we're looking at.

  • Gosh I wish I was good enough to have all of that memorized

The important thing to remember is that it's not an exact science, like psychology, which astrology is based around. The field of astrology wasn't designed to predict the future, but to track trends of personalities based on where and when someone was born

I use astrology more in terms of synchronicity. Like if I read about my planet sign going through some surge growth and I'm doing such and such in my life, it can help me find the resolve to do things

Like my star sign is capricorn, which are very hard core determined people. Not all of what a capricorn is defines me acutely, but that doesn't make it wrong per se since there's much more than one star sign influencing things

I just kinda look at what it says about my star chart and see what could apply to my life. At the very least I'm doing shadow work, Carl Jung's shadow work. At the most I'm understanding myself on deeper and intimate spiritual levels

I guess another example would be like the full moon. It's written as like a spiritual time to reflect on your life from the last moon to this one. Depending on where the moon is and yadda yadda, there are unique variables that may relate to the person. I like to read about them and see what I can apply to myself and what I can learn and use to my benefit

    • In other words, there's maybe not too much sense in using it as a predictive tool, but it can be a framework to use to understand and motivate and work on yourself? Or to put it another way, it's about as useful as what it draws out of us? I like that way of looking at it. Makes me feel a bit less like I'm being bamboozled haha.

      • I mean I also use astrology to help prepare for things

This might be where it starts to get murky, but if the cosmos are aligning in a way that's supposed to propagate some change or influence, I can see how it affects my star chart (which just as a ball park I would say is 80% accurate) and some of the astrological dilemmas I might be faced with

But that's more or less the same, for me anyway, as a dream about being chased which would have helped cavemen survive an impromptu assailant or just trying to listen to my subconscious in general
