How would a person be able to “trick” or “connive” a lie detector test?

Ok, so don’t take my word for this, but a friend of mine was talking about like “polygraphs” or “lie detector tests”? He said that the secret to getting a “lie” to pass as truth during a lie detector test is you need to fully 100% believe that what you are saying is true, even if everyone else around you seems like it’s impossible, as long as you believe it to be truth, you can pass the lie detector test?

In your opinion, what do you think is the “secret cheat” or “way to beat” a legitimate polygraph test?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Have complete control over your emotions & don't react in any way to any questions, externally (movement, twitching, sharp breathing, etc.) or internally (heart rate spike, blood pressure increase/decrease, etc.)

Just start holding your breath, you can’t be questioned if you’re unconscious

Some people just don’t care that they’re lying, and it shows up as not being evasive. The same thing goes in actual conversation. The trick is mood, stay in the same mood while being truthful and while lying, resulting in no spike of any kind. The thing there is you have to be of certain character to do that in the first place, unlikely you’ll be capable.

There’s a reason lie detectors aren’t admissible in court, they’re incredibly flawed.

I'd never be able to pass a lie detector. I'd be surprised if anyone with an anxiety disorder could

I don't know, I've actually looked up how to cheat those. I've heard from a ton of sources that it can be done, though. I assume you just need to relax and show zero signs that you're lying, so the machine can't pick up on them. No eye movements, no twitches, no changes in heart rate, because you've already gone through this and everything's cool. It's probably difficult for the average person, though, especially if they're not used to dealing with authority. People who lie habitually would probably pass it more easily.

Obviously, if you truly believe the statement is true, you're probably going to pass it, but I assume you're talking about faking the machine out on purpose.

Lie detectors are very easy to trick. That's why they're rarely used.
You can get results showing that you're lying just because you're anxious, and results that shows you're speaking the truth even though you aren't just because you are capable of lying with confidence.

A couple of famous people supposedly have like Ted Bundy. They do it by thinking about other things when the questions are asked.

There is no secret to how to do it. Very few people can do it though - and it almost always takes training.

That is exactly the way people manipulate polygraph tests.
