How would you feel about your government "de-anonymizing" the internet?

The Australian federal government is planning to de-anonymize the internet to introduce a social credit system to combat "online abuse".

Police will have access to individuals' social media accounts, which will be linked to people's passports and drivers licenses.

My experience with Australian users on various platforms has always been that they are the first to report and block people. I'm wondering if this is a cultural phenomenon or something else.

    The internet is the cumulative knowlage of all of mankind at the disposal of anyone with a connection.

    To identify everyone who uses the internet it suddenly takes away the freedom of the internet. To go to places you might otherwise be too embarrassed or intimidated into going to. Instead it's probably safer for everyone to be anonymous. Keep the freedom spirit alive.

    Side point how far has Australia fallen to side with china about internet usage. For shame

    It has its good sides and its bad sides. The most notable negative side effect that this will have is the effect it will have on anonymous journalism.

    The social credit system is also an abysmal system that shouldn't have ever been introduced anywhere in the world. Black Mirror did a good episode on how social media social credit scores could be used.

    That's going too far. At this point it's made for anonymity, we could never have things like this side without it. Its not only the side of abuse. Its great that you can talk with strangers on the internet about things you would never talk about to those that are part of your life where it has real consequences

    If they do that here, I'd leave the internet as a whole. Besides, I really don't use it much anymore. Just for music, and a couple sites.

    Just another step of the information war. Try bitchute instead of youtube or google to get access to controversial viewpoints. Some of the stuff on there of course is crazy but YOU get to decide what is and isnt crazy not the government. Ive been listening to interviews of Robert W Malone on there one of the main cofounders of mNRA vaccines because he was completely canceled and demonized for being honest about the risks. You can only find his interviews on bitchute.com

    I'd stop using it if genial Uncle Boris tried it. Also as Lusty Argonian said, people can get access to your true details and can use then=m against you. The name I use is not the name I was given at birth anyway (I changed it in 1981) and I certainly don't want anyone knowing it.

    If my entire internet history is available to be seen I'm fucked. When I was like 15 I looked at pedophilia stuff once to see what all the hub bub was about. It was about as gross as you'd expect. Point being that history is their and if anyone found out that would severally impact my personal and professional life from something that happened many years ago. However if it only made present -future deanon I'd be ok. It seems dangerous though.
    Imagine being say a porn star, celebrity or even a model or writer and suddenly people are able to get access to your real name adresss etc relatively easy by computer standards. That's terrifying.
