How would you feel if a stranger asked you what your religion was?

Let's say that you are somewhere doing your own thing when a stranger approaches you and randomly asks what your religious beliefs are, how would this make you feel?

I would be offended. 5
The way I felt would depend on why they asked. 27

I'd tell them I'm not sure and then ask them their point of view on certain topics. There's this nice Jehovah's Witness couple that give me this magazine whenever they see me. They really do believe they're helping, walking around for hours trying to give people hope and perspective. They've never patronized my beliefs nor I theirs.
That's not to say I haven't run into pushy ones, but I give them a chance to be heard, too. Everyone just wants someone to hear them.

I have seen Jehovah's witnesses put down on this sight, but I had one stop by this week and give me an announcement for an upcoming Easter meeting. He was very nice and did not try to question me or push his beliefs.

Annoyed because every time someone asks me what religion I am, I always answer Atheist and then they wind up asking why and for some reason they start suggesting different churches for me to check out. It's so stupid.

  • I would just answer them.

Congolean. Obviously. You can tell just from my accent.

I don't care that you wouldn't care that I don't care that they don't care who cares.

I don't care that you don't care that I wouldn't care that you don't care that they don't care pertaining to the question about who cares about your religion.

My first thought was; what fucking business is it of theirs? But deeper consideration has me thinking that I really couldn't care less, because I have no religious beliefs, therefor nothing to discuss. It would be a pointless question that has no answer.

I would ask them: why and or what difference does it make? There are a lots of bored and lonely douchebags out there with there own stupid agenda to start a fight and or attempt to convert others to their system of beliefs. It's best to try to not play into their hands.

Depends. Which one of my personalities are you adressing this question to?

I'd say, "It's probably in your best interests to leave me alone."

Besides, who walks and randomly asks people "Hey, are you christian?"

I am not sure how this question would offend people. If I didn't want to answer I would A.give a half answer B.Change the subject C.Give some excuse as to why I cant share it. Though people often make some assumption already and treat me accordingly.

Its really annoying really. Religious people assume I am not religious and try to convert me or convince me what they believe isnt stupid.(Not saying it is but they seem to come across like they expect me to tell them they are stupid.)

That or the Atheists assume I am Religious and start telling me why god cant be real and why all religion is stupid. I guess I am too kicked back about things. So people just assume im playing for the other team.

I even had a Satanist say there was no way I could be Christian since I was too cool with them. So a lot of people make an assumption about me usually and just go with it.

Slightly awkward since there is no correct answer to that question. (I don't have a religion.)

They do all the time. I feel fine to tell them i have no religion, because i do not mind talking about beliefs, mine or theirs. and if they do mind, well then that's one good way to sort out people who are just gonna be wasting their time with me..

I lived in a country where this was usually the first question people asked you. At first it was very surprising, but I soon came to understand that for them it was quite normal, and they did not consider it an intrusive question. I'm not religious, but I would usually lie and say I was Christian (the expected answer due to my physical appearance) so as not to start some major debate.

Sometimes the non-answer starts the argument, kind of the other side of the coin from what RoseIsabella said. If you tell a Jehovah's Witness that you're a devout Roman Catholic, they'll leave you alone, because you're spoken for...but if you tell them you don't believe in God? Look the fuck out, because they'll be knocking on your door every Sunday before 10AM.
