How would you feel if someone said this to you?

"God/Jesus told me that we were destined to be together."

The person who says this to you could be anything from a complete stranger to someone you have just gone out on a first date with. How would this statement make you feel?

If I loved someone I'd want them to love me for themselves, not love me vicariously through God. I think the first date is too early to tell someone you want to be with them forever whatever, and telling them you're destined to be together is offensive to their sense of free will.

I would feel creeped out and want to get away from a person I hardly knew trying to manipulate me in such a way.

I'd take it as a compliment probably. But it is a bit odd.

This actually happened to me before. I told him I was an atheist lesbian and he backed off pretty quickly.

When has "God told me so" ever been used to justify something good outside the Bible?

I wouldn't be surprised if their are people who have used the phrase to justify something. I know there have been court cases where the defendant has claimed that they were possessed by a demon.

I can't think of anything that would turn me off more quickly or effectively. It really wouldn't matter if she was the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen; I just couldn't get an erection with a religious girl.

Period? Or just if she said something stupid like that?

I believe pretty much period. I get physically ill when I hear people talk about their religious faith. I can't explain it. The 2 or 3 times I've been in churches (when I was quite young), I actually vomited. Even today, at the thought of going into any sort of church, I go pale and start to shake.

Oooookay...not saying you are a liar or anything but that is pretty strange.

That's probably some cheesy pick up line BUT it did happen to me. I am NOT religious, I don't go to church or even think about any of it. But many years ago I had just started seeing this cute guy and we were at his house, just lying on the sofa together, talking. Suddenly I had this strange vision (never had them before or after, so I'm not some psychic or loony) that I was standing in some old small wooden church and there were 3 large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. And in front of them stands Jesus dressed in long white robe. And he is smiling and holding his hands out closed and as he opens his hands, there is a big open red rose in there. I told my boyfriend and luckily he didn't think I was crazy or freak out. But the funny thing is that we did end up together (not just because of the vision ha ha) and we've been married for over 2 years and have a son now. So I guess in a way God gave his blessing. I don't think that's the case for you though.

  • I'd feel a bit scared and make the quick judgement (for self-preservation sake) that this person has the potential to become a stalker.

Unless I knew the guy for years and strongly loved him (and he me), I would be honest and tell him I'm not interested. Or if it was with another female, I'd be the same towards her.

It's the same old crap. People designing a belief system to manipulate other people. It's been working for thousands of years.

Only losers say stuff like that.

I would assume they were just being lovey dovey if it was someone I was already dating. If it was someone I was not interested in I would point out how delusional they were and direct them to the nearest clinic and say I do not feel I am worthy of having the second jesus baby. So to please find a more suitable mate.

Be annoyed instantly but probably brush it off.

Now if I were to find out they had a secret shrine dedicated to me...theeen we'd have some problems.
