      Yeah. At that sized of a diverse population that mostly hates eachother (even the Buddhists funnily enough) I am amazed they dont have a genocide weekly.

      I give it 20 years before they can start producing their own good shit, rather than importing second hand stuff.

        It depends on what shit you're talking about. A huge amount of UK clothes are made in India. It also has a growing IT industry and Bollywood is massive, albeit an acquired taste for some. Plus, a large number of UK doctors are trained in India, and they're excellent doctors.

            Ah. Well, thankfully we're not at war with them.

            I imagine it might be kinda frustrating on a diplomatic level though that they're so on-the-fence. Not that I understand the diplomacy surrounding weapons trade very well, but judging from the stink that went up recently when Australia stopped purchasing submarines from France, I can only assume that this one of the most politically significant kinds of purchase going.

              India is a promising ally to the west. They hate china and pakistan, good foot in the door for potential alliances.

              I completely understand their usage of russian resources. Beggars cannot be choosers, especially when you have more people than China.

              Most of their military hardware isnt domestically produced, its sourced second hand or from other second world countries.

              India is in the middle of industrializing and that will still take time, get good with the politicians and the right investments and they would be a worthy cudgel in a fight. Granted they still have some internal issues to work out.

    The Indian people I've known have gone from weird to interesting to nice, to one of my favourite people.

    If it's the politics and business ethics we're talking about then that's a different kettle of fish, but it's so embroiled in the British colonial years that it's kind of my cultural heritage too, as much as I'd like to forget that we were ever involved in subjugating these people.
