How would you react if a random stranger knocked on your door at 3am?

Just wondering, like late at night Someone came and knocked on my door about 3 in the morning? What would you do if someone just came to your house late at night and rang your doorbell or knocked on your door? Would you open the door and greet the person? Or would you maybe call the police and let the police handle the situation?

I’d tap on the window with my shotgun.

i wouldn't answer and pretend no one was home. if they persisted and were banging/knocking on the door for several minutes I'd grab my knife and ask what the hell they want

I'd just ignore them. Chances are it's just some random crack head. I don't need that type of shit in my house.

I'd ask them if they were in trouble, and if they would like me to call the police for them from behind my steel security door.

It's happened before, I've peeked to see what I was dealing with and answered with a gun. Tell them to leave, let them know you mean it. I don't think hiding is the answer, you don't want people thinking you're an easy target.

The most reasonable response to this situation is hugely dependent on where you happen to live.

Our house is in a very quiet residential area of a small village in rural Britain. If someone knocked on our door at 3 am, the first thing that would happen would be that both our mutts would start going bonkers with barking. Our front door is textured glass from top to bottom and there's a motion activated light right outside, so from inside, you can see a blurred outline of anyone outside and how far they are from the door. If someone knocked on the door at that hour of the morning, my immediate assumption would be that it was a neighbour looking for help with a serious and urgent problem. So as long as I didn't see that the person outside was crowding right up to the door and possibly prepared to barge in, I'd simply open the door enough to ask what was going on.

That definitely would not be the most sensible response in a lot of places.

I would ignore them. If they kicked down the door, I would give them a triple tap. That's 2 quick shots to the body, followed by a third well aimed shot between their eyes.

    Likely I'd sleep though it.

However, if they pounded and kept pounding I'd go to the door, turn on the porch light and look to see before I opened the door.

I'd be holding a handgun in my right hand pointed at the ceiling, and my foot would be against the door in case they tried to force the door open. They can likely see the handgun in my hand as I approach the door if they are looking through the window.

If they looked decent (or someone in trouble) I'd most likely talk to them through a cracked open door (but in a case of someone in obvious trouble I'd likely open the door and let them in). What happens after that depends on the situation.

The same thing I would do if a random stranger knocked on my door during the day. Ignore it but make sure they leave.

This actually happened to me, twice. The first time was a girl overdosing, called the paramedics.

The second time started several days before when I saw a tweaker couple physically fighting each other in the street one morning. I got them separated and took her to crisis. She went back to him and was at my door days later screaming for help in the middle of the night. Police were aware of them and I left another tip to CPS. My ex-boss' aunt actually ran the daycare her kids went to, so I informed her about the situation as well. I don't know what happened but the family no longer lives there.

To get to my door they'd have to have scaled a fence to get into the property first, so I'd load up my shotgun.

If it was a child or lady, I would open the door. But if it were a man, most likely I would just open the door and ask what's up, as long as the person looked non threatening

I would look out my window to see who it is, probably not answer if it is a stranger

Depends on the knock. I go to bed at 330 so I'd still be up. In a month I'll be getting up at 3 so I'd still awnser.

    Shut the door on them.

I wouldn't even answer the door but if they persisted, I would boil a kettle of water ready to throw over them.
