I’m a fatmerican

I’m a Fatmerican, yeah you read that right… a Fatmerican. I weigh probably three times as much as you do and about twice as much as I should.

I have tried losing weight, but it doesn’t work. I tried the juice diet for a week combined with rigorous threadmill sessions. I have also tried eating low calorie food over a couple of months (mainly vegetables), cutting my portions in half + combined cardio and strength training. The end result was that I… went up 2kg.

Has anyone experienced the same?

The issue may not be what you eat, but how often you eat. How regularly do you eat?

  • Check your thyroid.

Have you tried logging your food to accurately track your calorie intake?

I would suggest that either you have a health issue that prevents you from losing weight, or you're just trying too hard, resulting in you failing. Something I've realized is that there are so many people who try so hard to lose weight, but then they fail. My advice to you: just eat less. Doing advanced exercise barely helps with losing weight, from what I have heard. Just eat less. I know this works. For example, I lost 35 pounds in the last year. How did I do that? I ate one meal a day, and if I felt hungry at any other point in the day, I said too bad. As long as you're not a complete glutton in your one meal a day, you'll lose weight.

You're making excuses. If I locked you in a room you would lose weight. Its funny how no prisoner at auchwitz had trouble losing weight... you eat less you lose weight. This works 100% of the time.

Absolutley true, dude. People don't get it, they think they can somehow break the laws of physics. You can't create or destroy energy. Whatever excess you take in is what you will apply to yourself as mass. Nothing else to it. If you put on weight whilst dieting then you took in more calories whilst "on a diet".

In theory that's true, you will always lose weight if few enough calories are eaten. But those people where outright forced to starve and actually extremely unhealthy, shouldnt even be something we compare with in this setting. In practice we also have to account for peoples actual self control and hunger feeling over time. People have a strong instinct to eat enough that they feel satisfied and if they dont find a diet that lets lose weight without going hungry for the vast majority if time and actually eat till satisfied, it will ineviably fail for most people for that reason. The situation is different when people have a choice, but still limited self control (which is for almost everyone, not only fat people). If things are to work in practice, you have to account for people not just being purely rational "robots", we are animals too

In 1965, Barbieri, then a 27-year-old from Tayport, Scotland, checked into the Maryfield Hospital in Dundee. Initially only a short fast was planned, due to the doctors believing that short fasts were preferable to longer ones. Barbieri insisted on continuing because "he adapted so well and was eager to reach his 'ideal' weight".[1]:203[2] For 382 days ending on 11 July 1966, he consumed only vitamin tablets, electrolytes, yeast (source of all amino acids) and 0 calorie beverages, like coffee, tea, and mineral water. During the final 3 weeks of fast, he drank small amounts of milk. He quit working at his father's fish and chip shop, which closed down during the fast. Barbieri's starting weight was recorded at 456 pounds (207 kg) and he stopped fasting when he reached his goal weight of 180 pounds (82 kg). After his weight loss, he moved to Warwick and had two sons. Barbieri died on 7 September, 1990, aged 51.

Short fasts are not that unhealthy if you are getting your essential nutrients. Boxers often lose 40 pounds in just a few months for a fight. If you eat way less you will lose weight. Ive lost 50 pounds this year with this method.

You may think you're eating less and exercising more, but that's clearly not the case if you're gaining weight. That's just not how biology works.

If you were training a lot and went up in weight, that could actually be muscle weight and not fat weight. Muscles also burn more calories over time (but dont use that as an excuse to eat more/more unhealthy). You should train regularly and continue to eat healthy: mostly low calorie foods, lots of veggies, some fat (not trans fat and not "tons" of it, unless you go keto) and a decent amount of proteins so you dont lose muscle and it also keeps you satisfied longer. Dont eat when you aren't actually hungry
