I always cry over my cat's dead prey.

Every spring/ summer my cat goes hunting and brings dead animals home, mostly young birds and little mice. He throws them proudly at my feet each time. I know these are his gifts. But I always get very sad and cry. I love animals and I always bury these birds and mice in my garden. I would feel guilty by putting them in the rubbish box. Am I over-sensitive or do other people react the same?

You sound like an innocent, kind-hearted person. I see no abnormality.

My grandma's cat always killed squirrels and rabbits, now she's old and just lays around. I always enjoyed seeing what she'd bring back! One time she got a crow.

  • Kellstar, my cat has a collar with a bell on it, so that doesn't do anything

Buy your cat some bells for his collar. The animals will hear him coming and will run away. Cats killing animals isn't nice, even if it is thier natural instinct. please get bells and attach them to the collar

My cat once brought home a dead bluejay.

I praised him... First it was a gift, second... I hate blue jays.

This is is the cat's nature. There is no evil in a creature following its true nature.

  • I agree with kellstar but to answer your question, I would be the same if my cats were outdoor cats and brought that home.

It's natural to feel sad about a dead animal even if your cat is gifting it to you.
