I am dreading my birthday

It's not about getting older, I don't care about that. I just don't like how phony birthdays feel and don't like unwanted attention or being showered with gifts. It makes me feel awkward. I am hoping nobody remembers it this year. I don't like holidays either for the same reason. Especially Valentine's Day.

    The unwanted attention only bothers me if it's coming from coworkers. If my friends or family want to shower me with gifts, I'm all for it, and I want them to dial the phoniness up to a thousand.

    Maybe you could do something to give back on your birthday, a sort of private celebration that you’re still alive and contributing to the world?
