I am extremely afraid of caves
Caves freak me out. The immense darkness, the loud echos, the spiky rocks, and the creatures that lurk in them scare me. Is this normal?

I've been in large caves that do tours for the public, and they didn't bother me.
What does seriously freak me out - and I mean shivers-down-spine, physically cringing and want to shut my eyes freak-out - is watching videos of people exploring caves where they're like half a mile into a hillside or something and they have to get on their belly and squeeze themselves through a jagged tunnel in the rocks that's just barely big enough for them to get through.
The story of that cave rescue in Thailand a couple of years ago when a youth football team was trapped by rising water, and how the rescuers had to guide them through flooded, very narrow passages also freaked me out.
I can watch people balancing on tiny ledges high above the ground; I can watch people messing around with snakes, spiders and other creepy-crawlies; I can watch people doing all sorts of clearly stupid, dangerous shit. But seeing someone cram themselves into a cave squeeze passage with literally millions of tons of rock above them does some weird, existential shit in my head.
my great grandfather discovered what is now a famous cave that gets tourist traffic year round
Caces are awesome man. Though understandable. Are you claustrophobic ny chance?
I'm not the OP. I do not like caves because I'm claustrophobic, I hate the fact that I am underground and surrounded by darkness I am at the mercy of nature, that is what is low key terrifying. On the other hand ice caves are some of the coolest (ha) places I've been to.
