I am far too mature

Is it normal for an 18 year old not to have ANY friend his age? Here's why. I'm very well mannered and well spoken not literally I mean loud, confident and direct and have a deep voice. My teachers even call me Mr.Evans (my last name.)Down to the supremely weird; When a friend enters my home I say would you like a drink and they always look weird/disgusted when handed a glass of hard liquor, which is by my terms a drink. I like to discuss current events, world news and politics. I sit "weird" like a man when reading the paper. Why am I so different? My diploma-less unemployed and drug abuser friends call me "nerdy" and "weird"

  • Tommythecat you amuse me. I wonder how untidy your bedroom/environment is as you type your comments. Are you slim or overweight? Have you ever kissed a girl? I can tell that You don't have any qualifications and definitely do not earn a lot of money. Do your parents ignore you? Have they always?

    Hahaha.

Maturity isn't about giving away free alcohol, reading the newspaper, being articulate or feeling intelligent. At least not to me.

Maturity is about understanding youth and tolerating the nuances associated. It's about being able to take an insult without having to defend your ego, because you know what you are and it doesn't matter whether someone with no social decorum sees that.

It's about being able to stand tall without looking down on others, being able to say what you need to say without having to use rudeness and vulgarity and about taking responsibility for your actions and saying "yes, I did wrong, it was my fault".

If you've got that nailed down then bravo, it's not normal and it is a good trait to have. But seeing as how you ended your story by crudely pointing out the problems that your friends face as their identities, I'd say you have a little ways to go.

That's actually how I am now, it takes somewhat of a troubled past and one too many mistakes made to get equivalent life experiences to an adult. I'm too the point now where I don't even speak a bad word about anyone, and criticism is out of my vocabulary.
The end part is probably some buried self hatred for growing up supremely addicted to opiates.

I think this is normal, because I'm like this too. I don't do things exactly like you, but I feel more mature than my age group. I don't talk in slang/improper grammar and try to be very polite. I don't carry on like they do or even have the same interests. I feel like I was born in the wrong decade:(

You are far too sexy you should say ;-)

You sound very sexy. I love nerds. Even though I don't think you're necessarily a nerd for being mature.

You reminnd me of myself a bit. I have always had trouble fitting in among people my age. I need stimulating conversations, which is hard to find among my peers who usually gossip or talk about... well stupid shit. And my tastes seem to be similar to that of a 40 year old. My friends think I'm "gross" for drinking black coffee in the morning and red wine with dinner.

Anyway, be glad your different. Who wants to be the same as everyone else? Maybe you should socialize with either more mature people or older people as well.

I see you in a smoking jacket and over priced leather slippers. Am I right? Smoke and pancake? Pipe and a crepe? Cigar and a blintz?

  • You sound mentally and socially retarded.

A person that always hands people hard liquor when they enter their home is socially retarded.

To think that there is actually a way to sit "weird" like a man when reading the paper is mentally retarded.

A loud, confident, direct and deep voice is common to many people of all ages, thinking that it's special for an 18 year old is delusional and retarded.

These things are not "nerdy" in any sense of the word. They are however quite "deluded" and/or "lame"

Well, that's your opinion, I'm fine with being socially inept maybe even lame like you say. Even if I have only older friends I have no one to be normal for.

      • I'm not trying to have a go, i'm just saying that what you think is "mature" is quite a delusion and unhealthy.

          I agree with tommythecat.

I tend to be a bit direct and tactless too at times. But that shouldn't sway anyone from seeing the truth.

Sadly for you (topic starter) you are not mature as yet. Strangely I can easily tell from your broken writing, and.. its content :D Lol

  • Buddy, you're a normal guy if there ever was one. If you were the right age for me, I would totally date you, as I am fed up with the immaturity of the guys with whom I associate on a regular basis. I don't have friends either and that's how I prefer it.

    This is perfectly normal!
When I was 15-16 years old, most people I knew were amazed to find out I wasn't in my late twenties.

It's totally normal to do things because you want to better your self image. And it's also pretty normal to think of yourself as better than everyone else and brag about it. And it's good for your self image to not actually brag, but just say that you do these things, without revealing that you love doing these things, because doing so boost your ego.
