I am sick of netflix and youtube
Here's a bit of background (not that anyone should care), I'm 37 years old and need to spend around 1.5- two hours a day on entertainment, mostly online. I rarely watch television unless it's something important like the Olympic games. So for recreation, I usually watch all the contents on my laptop. I'm not much of a smartphone user.
The amount of hate I've had for YouTube and NetFlix has increased exponentially during the last several months. Talk about a cocaine-addict hating his dealer because he always gives him the wrong goods and keeps him waiting for the momentary HIGH, and condescends to him all the time-- hoping you understand the analogy of what I'm trying to say. I get it these websites are "pros" at understanding user behavior and they corner the Internet in such a way that you're made to feel you just can't live without them.
I'm absolutely sick of the corporations behind Netflix and YouTube: they treat their billions of users as if we are nothing. We're like an endless food supply chain for their greedy advertisers. The idle surfing we do on their platforms, the amount of time we waste is what gives them the revenue.
In my case, how did YouTube thank me? They deleted my primary channel for no reason. Well I did post a few music and entertainment videos but not to make money, just to showcase to others what I liked (I remember turning off the monetization option as I just wanted to share my favorite videos).
Besides I'm not the only one guilty of copyright infringement. There are many others who have posted the exact same videos. Still I'm the one that gets the stick without any rights to appeal. Well technically, I can try pleading my case but I don't want to be spoken down to anymore. YouTube has made me feel like a second-class citizen for far too long anyway: it's time to quit the one-way dependency. As much as they like to believe, Google doesn't own the Internet.
YouTube is like a bitchy ass girlfriend that forever treats you like shit, reminding you that you'll never be good enough for her. As for NetFlix, they never have my favorite movie titles.
I'm a retro 80's/90's movie addict, and everytime I search for a blast from the past, I get a "title will be available soon" status. Most of their "original" videos are frankly, unwatchable.
The problem is these two websites corner a lion's share of entertainment on the Internet, at least in the English-speaking world. Some friends have recommended me Amazon Prime Video, Apple Music and Spotify. But i don't want to enter into this rabbit-hole of another corporation.
No, I want to part ways with all these mega corporation websites for good. I want the Internet to go back to what it used to be before these big corporations showed up. I know that's not going to happen but even the tiny person in me can fight back against these biggies. I have already deleted my Facebook account, never had Instagram in the first place. So the only two enemies are YouTube and NetFlix.
I just want to go back to what it used to be before 2004 or something -- download my favorite movies and songs from somewhere online. Last I checked P2P sites such as Limewire are dead now: forgive me for sounding like someone who's been under a rock for last 10 years but it seems to me all those old sites I used to download my contents from (often illegally) are now vanished.
But I do have 1 Terabyte of hard disk space on my laptop. And another 1 Terabyte on my Microsoft OneDrive account which is pretty reliable and solid because it comes bundled with your Word, Excel and Powerpoint subscription. So I guess it's time for me to STOP STREAMING and START DOWNLOADING what I want.
The only problem is I don't know how, or where. Hoping anyone who can relate has good recommendations of legit pirate sites.
Sorry for this being too long.
