I bought a robot vacuum. is it normal i'm surprised it actually works?

I turned it on and went to collect my daughter from day care and expected it to be stuck somewhere when I got home but when I opened the door the place was spotless and it was just finishing cleaning under my bed.

Ahh, I want one of those because there are loads of projects to turn them into robots that do other cool stuff. I don't suppose you'd let me dismantle yours? :P

I used to have one with a slightly dodgy battery. I'd totally have given it to you if I'd known you then. I was going to recommend woot.com, because they sometimes have really good deals on refurbished ones, but I don't think they ship to the UK. I bet you could find a used one or an older model for a good price, though.

There was a lady on the Woot forums who said that when she was waiting for hers to arrive, she punched paper with a hole punches and put the little paper circles all over the floor of her apartment, so it would feel welcome.

    • Dappled, if you are willing to wait for the warranty to expire, and travel to my stinking hot country, dismantling my vacuume would be a right.

Well, patience is one virtue I definitely do have, but the ability to deal with heat is not a strong suit of mine. How hot are we talking here? :P

40°C? Numbers go that high? According to my thermometer, it's a balmy 2°C here now. Can we meet somewhere halfway? :P

I kinda want one of these, but I can't imagine that it would do as good of a job as a vacuum cleaner. After one go through, mine is usually filled with dirt and dust. That much wouldn't even fit into one of those Roombas.

    • Hehe, it's similar but a different brand. Its name is Sadie but I keep calling it Roomba by accident.

I had nine of them running around the store at once and this looked the most promising.

I'm going to get my robot dance on now.

You went to collect your daughter. That somehow sounded really odd to me.

    Is this some covert advertisement?

It's normal for something to do what it said it would do on the packaging.

    • I kind of felt the same way after writing this, that's why I didn't specify brand or model.

I was expecting to be disappointed by this little sucker.

We had one of these at my infants school:
        http://www.valiant-technology.com/us/images/roamer_01.gif

It's called a Roamer. It was supposed to be educational; you could make it move to certain places by programming basic commands like 2 metres forward, 3 right etc.

Basically what became the robot vacuum I guess.
