I can't get peace and quiet

Too bad there wasn't a category for noise

Anyway, around evenings, I like to unwind in my room. My room, which is in the basement, was the place where I used to enjoy some quiet time. However, this isn't the case since my niece is staying with her grandparents and I.

This is where the problem starts (no intentions of blaming my niece). My room has a vent near my bed. It's hard to get some me time when there's yelling, screaming, and stomping happening right above my room. It's like I never left the living room (room above my bedroom) in the first place. Is it "normal" to be frustrated by this?

Put on some earbuds and listen to something else. It sucks being forced around other people's noise but unfortunately we have to during isolation times.

Not when I have a blistering headache!

Plus, I'm not much of a pill person. Luckily hot coco with cinnamon does the trick

Why is she even yelling and screaming in the first place? It's normal for toddlers to cry sometimes but that just sounds like a case of bad parenting. Have a talk with her parents about getting the little brat to shut the fuck up.

Can't you politely request that your niece keep the noise down for a set length of time, say an hour? Depending on how old she is, surely there are other activities she could be involved in that don't involve yelling, screaming and stomping?

Can you cover the vent and/or use earplugs?

The vent is like a thin wall

Sound comes through it no matter what.

I requested this to my parents before, but defended her saying "you're not downstairs now", or "she's just 4 years old".

Get a hose and like attach it to the gas outlet and like feed it up through the vent, eventually they will stop making noise. But be careful they don’t tape matches to the bottom of the basement door

Sounds pretty normal if my childhood is anything to go by. Me and my sister had rooms in the basement. My mom had all if upstairs and my brother lived in the connected apartment on 2nd story. Well he basically lived with us. Abd he had some serious issues back then. My sis called the cops on him more than a few times. And if the upstairs neighbor was someone else well it would of happened alot more if he stated with us. Dude had problems
