I can't stay off my phone

For several years, I intentionally used a flip phone because I felt like I didn't need all of that that comes with a smartphone. I almost prided myself on it. Well, eventually I caved in and I now spend too much time on my smartphone.

I feel like a lot of it is I'm not in a good spot and I need something to be addicted to as I have an addictive personality. At one point it was video games when I was younger, another it was playing baseball, marijuana as an adult.

I now put my focus into card breaks which basically is where you pay for a team in a case of a sports card product and then the box is opened live on video and you get to keep the cards that are pulled from the case. As fun as it is, the ultimate goal is typically to pull an expensive card and sell it for money because I don't make much money at the moment.

This as well as general email checking and a couple frequented sites causes me to overuse my phone (I spend a lot of time alone). I notice it too because it is at times harder to see further things the following day. This is usually when I make a point to use my phone far far less and then my eyesight improves again.

Long story short, how can I systematically and consistently use my phone less?

Focus on a hobby or go back to having a flip phone are my suggestions.

Get someone to hide it or take it from you for a set period of time.

Set aside 1 hour of every XX hours phone/internet free. Go for a walk, do some housework, visit a friend in that hour.

You can throw out your phone.

But you will keep coming back to addictions until you accept all of your demons.

    • Yes. Part of it is current physical health though. Won't be so amplified when I'm physically better

    • Thanks dick, I'm working through a shoulder injury from baseball. I'm referring to when I'm not at work. As soon as I'm where I want to be physically, it won't be as bad.

        • You really are stupid, huh? As if "ffs get a job" is the only possible response.

Like any addiction. Find something else to do. When you feel the urge to use your phone, go for a walk. Find a hobby (as was suggested above) I agree its not healthy.

Find someone to spend time with. If none of the above work send me a message. Ill call you. Then you can't ply on your phone, because you will be making a phone call
