I can't tell if i'm really shy or if i have social anxiety.

every time I talk to someone, anyone, I feel like my hearts going to burst and my face turns bright red and I have shortness of breath and super shaky hands for the next few hours. when I say/do something embarrassing I think about it for a long time and what I can do next time to not look like a complete retard.anyway I bought a Fitbit that tells you what your heart rate is and my resting HR is 82 and my HR when I talk to someone is 125 ish. that's the equivalent to me running a mile. what do you think it is?

Shy is just a euphemism for social anxiety.

I thought shyness was social anxiety.

Shyness is a personality trait. I think we've all felt shy at some point. A few butterflies in the stomach hardly compares to the mental disorder that is social anxiety. It's debilitating and impedes some part of your life e.g. socially or career-wise, with anxiety lasting weeks prior to an event. There are also panic attacks, which make you feel like you're going to die, even when in your head you know you're not.

Damn it. I hit the wrong button. I meant to say social anxiety.

I definitely lean toward social anxiety. If you were just shy, you would feel normal with only awkwardness, discomfort, and/or annoyance.
Anti social wouldn't be you either, as that's a person who simply dislikes social situations to the point of not wanting be around friends and most family.

I have the same issue. my heart beat is normal when i'm alone but in social situations it goes way up and i feel a little dizzy and light headed and like i'm constantly being judged. it helps to tell yourself that everything is going to be okay and learn to calm down. it could be social anxiety but people who really have it have trouble even leaving their house. or it could just be insecurity and low self esteem. i know i still suffer from this. work on, improve, and feel better about yourself. and things will look brighter, trust me.

thank you, I mean I always feel like someone's gonna hate me/ judge me completely if I do something or anything stupid. I'm scared to go to my church now bc we do these activities that include running, throwing, and stuff like that and I feel like everyone thinks I'm a freak if I can't do somthing they can do.

It must be social anxiety. When I speaked with friends or strangers, there will always be this instant shivering. Not online though. It must be hard for you and sorry to hear that. If you need help online, there are always forums about it. I'm just sharing.
