I cant figure out which service i should try

I come from two Marine parents and Marines are technically part of the Navy. As a child of two Marine veterans I would know this. So I was either going to Join the Marines or the Navy.

I think I would probably do good in either but Navy has a good science program and Marines have a good law program. I was planning on being a cop but dont have the time to wait for that right now(its a year for backgrounds).

So which service should I join? Naval or Marine corps? I think I would be happy in either one really. Though since they are both "Navy based" I am probably going to have issues with the swimming portion of either one. I dont want to join Army or Air force just because they look and sound really lame.

The Navy actually has a less intense swimming course next to the Marines. So how do I figure out which one is a better fit? I am also kind of small which apparently everyone in the Marines is a shrimp and they have the shortest men and women. I am getting a book to study for asvab.

Any dumbass can learn to swim in a couple of hours and become proficient in not much more time, so I wouldn't even take that into consideration.
I believe the navy polices the marines, so if you want to become a cop, that's where you'll get the best training.
Personally, I think the marines are only a gung ho boy's club for ever, but of little value in preparing for a civilian career. The navy, on the other hand can offer you training in things as diverse as nuclear reactor engineering, being a pilot to becoming an officer aboard a ship, if you find you don't want to be a cop.
I don't see it as much of a choice, if I were you.

As I said, all it takes is a little practice.

Walk into a bar full of Marines and tell them all you think they're shrimps. What happens next is bound to be interesting.

    • This is not something I said, this came from marine veterans. Also I am shorter then my entire family. I am only 5,1 that is even short for females. I not the one who thinks marines are short. I been told by marines "That marines are short".

I believe that most fighter pilots and astronauts are short people. Cheaper to design and build aircraft for smaller plots.

  • That is definitely something you will need decide on your own since it is your future. I know my answer doesn't really help. I was considering the Marine Corps. Maybe talk to others that have served outside of your family to get their opinions. Recruiters will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to join.
