I do not understand the korean beauty standards.

The way south Korea has strict beauty standards is far beyond what I Expected. They apparently think being super skinny is beautiful, even just having a little muscle or meat on the bones is too fat or chubby. Their size large in clothing is small, If you were a dark skinned person they will treat you as if you aren't from this world and that can either be a good or bad thing.

Men will approach random foreign women and take advantage of them and will consider them as their girlfriends after the first date. It's so weird.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I've never been to Korea but I've heard all of this through my friends who lived there.

One of my friends just got back from teaching English in Korea. In the US she's a size 4 which is small but in Korea she was a size Large. A few times women working in clothing stores said they didn't have her size because she's "a little chubby" or even flat out called her big. I don't even know how she handled it to be honest.

I remember her telling me everyone was either underweight or close to underweight but also their body frame size was smaller overall so made them more petite looking.

She was part of a fitness center too because she has always been into keeping a healthy body weight and she's 5'4 probably around 120 pounds and said she weighed the most in her entire group 😬. Her closest friend was 95 pounds 5'3. These were adults, not teens! They were almost all under 100 pounds it's crazy.

So yeah I don't understand it, I don't get why being so skinny is seen as the ideal look. Being healthy is all that should matter not looking like a child.

I mean being fat is becoming popular in my country so I can't judge them to harshly

Being fat is not seen as the ideal though even if it's common now. In Korea they shame you for being a normal healthy weight.

I must say K-Pop stars are very beautiful, but some of them are very skinny, I try to be like them. I am 5ft 2 and I weigh around 53-55kg, I do look chubby, and I hate it, I hate how fat my thighs are and I am starting a diet tomorrow. I really love the way Korean/Japanese women look and their build, it's not too bulky, it just looks very dainty and cute.

Idk but I do know that North Korea is the epicentre of style! I mean have you seen North Korean soldiers? They are sexy and very handsome. And they are skinny not by choice unlike South Koreans.

    • Those who are influenced by Korea, Kpop stans for example would try to fit in with their society. They think their beauty standards are normal while everything else isn't.

Why anybody would want to associate with those who associate themselves with it in the first place is beyond me.

        Just terrible.
