I don’t like dogs

Everybody I know and the vast majority of people love dogs. And it’s always been a struggle for me because honestly I can’t fucking stand them. I’ve never been much of an animal person but dogs especially are annoying to me. I can’t stand when I come to somebody’s house and their giant dog jumps all over me and licks my face with its slobbery tongue and shit breath. And even worse is when dogs beg for attention or food. I hate when people say “give my dog attention” or tell me to pet their dog or ask why I’m not doing so. I don’t give a shit about your dog. I don’t hate them I just find them really fucking annoying and needy. I also hate when they sit and bark/yelp. Nothing pisses me off more than hearing dogs wail and freak the fuck out over nothing. I appreciate the beauty of animals and their existence but I just don’t really care for them on an emotional level. What do you think?

I dont like "dog culture" and the dog freaks who are obsessed with it to a sociopathic degree, I dont particularly like dogs but I don't hate them either. They're cute but I don't see the big deal. its an animal that was made to stroke your pitiful ego when no human would, we get it already. cats, birds, and even rodents are cooler, but im not a big fan of having pets in general.

on reddit there is a version of childfree but for dogs, you guessed it, r/dogfree. I dont take the distaste that far, I just find it funny that sub exists.

Oh my god, reddit dog free is a fucking goldmine. The amount of hatred is fucking hilarious, especially the constant pitbull/baby eating memes (SO GOOD). My dog is an American Staffy (basically a pitbull), so those make make me laugh so much because my dog has only eaten like 3 (barely any) babies so far.

Lol yes. I am on the "bandwagon" for reversing the pitbull stereotypes, cause they really are sweet and cute (i've volunteered an animal shelter and had to take care of some, they actually have a lot of pit bulls or similar breeds there), it's funny that there is so much opposition to that, posting scary pics of those dogs (which I kinda get, they are a little scary, but those people are so upset its funny)

Totally fine not to like dogs! They are very needy, require a ton of attention & energy, & can be incredibly destructive.

As a dog owner, I love having one. It keeps me busy & out of the house & it's amazing having a creature that always shows love & affection & loyalty. Also, I feel way safer with her in the house. (Luckily mine doesn't stink, but she's still a total asshole)

Having said that, the craziness about how dogs are angels whom people do not deserve is just fucking stupid insanity. They are a specific type of pet that suits a specific type of owner & they can be absolute fucking cunts.

    Totally normal.
I love cats too much tho & would fight you about that.

    • Right! I respect when people can take care of their dog, or if they decide to have one, but it really rubs me the wrong way when I’m treated like I’m a bad person just because I don’t like them

100% agree. I think it's just another example of weirdos finding like-minded weirdos online & encouraging each other to make their dog love part of their identity to the point where it's toxic. And those "we don't deserve dogs!!1" & "if my doggo doesn't trust you, I don't trust you1111" people are THE WORST dog owners. They always walk their dog off lead, don't train it & let it shit everywhere because, in their minds, anyone who doesn't love dogs is an evil person who is not worth consideration. "So what if my dog jumps on strangers! WHO DOESN'T <3 DOGS, amirite"

Dogs are just needy pets. Not even everyone who likes dogs should have one. They require a lot of responsibility on the part of the owner & part of that responsibility is respecting the fact that not everyone wants to interact with your dog. Like, I get that my dog looks scary to some people, so I keep her away from strangers unless they want to give her a cuddle. Not that hard!

Ranting now hahaha but dog people are way worse than dogs.

        • Yeah... my ex boyfriend decided to get a lab husky puppy mix in our tiny apartment complex. He was insanely energetic, ate the floors, there was constantly shit and piss all over the wood floors and walls because my boyfriend wouldn’t train him and didn’t care. It was a nightmare. We lived in the ghetto and it didn’t help he’d YELP every 30 seconds so loud it’d shatter your eardrums. We had neighbors that’d sometimes come bang on our doors, but we never answered because we also had a neighbor that threatened us with a gun. Talk about a fucking nightmare. I had to pretend to like the stupid dog or else I was a terrible dog hater in his eyes.

Lol no way & your ex was gaslighting the fuck out of ya. I love dogs & I would have HATED that situation; feeling that way does not make you an evil puppy kicker, it makes you normal.

I feel you... I used to not like dogs, now i’m okay with, but I don’t like the jumping and the neediness. I live in a very dog friendly city and have come to the conclusion that dog people are assholes. They’re obsessed with their “fur babies” and whenever I mention I have a cat they always have some rude shit to say.

It came up in conversation at work and my boss goes “the only thing cats are good for is target practice” Like Jesus Christ, okay psycho.. guy has a pit bull, which is worse? A cat or a toddler devouring pit bull? Another time I was on a date and the topic came up that I owned a cat. The girl didn’t at all hold back her disgust and went on a 10 minute rant of why she hated cats. There was also another time when some girl came up to me and started flirting with me at a bar. She talked about her dog, and of course I brought up that I had a cat... to which she responded “Eh, you should get rid of it” Who the fuck says that about someone else’s pet? At least that thing loves me, who are you? Some drunk chick who just started talking to me.

    TL;DR fuck dog people

Consider this response to a woman who is annoyingly obsessed with her dog: Look her in the eye, arch an eyebrow, and say, "Oh, so I guess you must be one of _those_ women. Sorry, but I'm not really into that."

      Then walk away... briskly.

Hopefully, the penny will only drop (as they say in Britain) after you're out of reach.

Certain things, the owner loves but the rest of the world hates. Things like pets, ring tones, loud music, loud vehicles, kids, whatever

I don't mind dogs if they are well trained and know how to behave. Tho I do hate it when lazy owners turn their dog into an out of control attention seeking hog that never stops barking.

And I absolutely hate dog-friendly offices and workplaces... The fuck are you trying to run? A business, or a pet shelter?! Dogs belong in your home, or garden, not at your fucking workplace!
A guy at my gardening/ cleaning company has asked if he could take his dog to work with him on tour, cause "he is a perfect little angel". Absolutely not! I can NOT be held responsible for what someone's stupid mongrel does. What if it wanders off and gets hit by a car, or gets lost? What if it damages a client's property? What if it damages office property?! Or God forbid it bites someone... No! Dogs do not belong at the workplace!

I'm a cat owner and I let my cat sit in the comfort of my home and when I get back I can pet her until she falls asleep purring, but I wouldn't take her in the office with me.
My parents have a cat and a dog and my dad never took the dog to work.

People can be really weird about dogs.

I'm a huge fan of them myself and I do go all gaga like a typical annoying white girl when I see a cute dog. However I do have the self awareness to understand that this doesn't mean that everyone else likes them. You're right that they can be annoying and smelly and loud. I love them in spite of these things but I don't expect everyone else to. I would be embarrassed if my dog jumped up on a guest in my house and started licking them or begged for food from them, and I'd apologise and tell the dog off and make sure it moved away from them.

I've noticed that a lot of people with dogs don't react like this though. They just assume that everyone else finds their dog's bad behaviour cute and can't fathom the idea that maybe people don't want a dog up in their face.

It's usually the same people who think their kid screaming in your face and trying to steal your fries is adorable. Those people are dicks and you should try and avoid them as much as possible.

    Ya'll better get somethin straight
Also i too hate dog lovers

You cannot describe a person in the wrong way IF you love them (as a family or s/o, etc.)
same for people who genuinely think of their pets as "part of the family"

But to go out of your way kissing them like tongue to tongue and being that dummy who would take a literal grenade for their dogs life is just really silly to me, because u for one have a chance in life, all the dog is gonna get are butt scratches and maybe a show that yo dumbass can't even take him to cuz u apparently loved him or her or they them or she them i dunno fuckin some pans or some shit like that, way more.

  • I'm not a dog lover or hater. Some dogs I like and most I don't. I've had 4 dogs in my life.

"Pooch" a dog I got at five who lived till I was 12. He was my favorite. He disappeared one day. I still think about him.

"Scooby" a retired narcotics sniffing dog I adopted. He died of old age

"Frankie", another dope sniffer that didn't make the cut so was put up for adoption. Died of old age.

"Sadie", an abused and horribly neglected red nosed pit that minded me like a child. She died in childbirth.

Other than these, I've never been much of a dog person. I've had tons of cats over the years and have two

What I can't stand is people who have 5 STINKING chihuahuas living in their home and let those nasty little bastards sleep in their bed at night. They always say shit like 'how cuuuute' and stupid shit like that and don't realise how bad their house smells with all these dogs laying around. God I hate those people.

I use to love dogs until I havent owned one for 10 years and have cats. Now I like cats. Cats arent as needy and theyre usually well behaved and funnier.

I share my home with two dogs we took in when they were abandoned near the Italian farmhouse we used to live in. Every time another new stray showed up, I couldn't bring myself to throw rocks at them until they went away (like the local Italians would have done), so we ended up feeding and caring for a succession of five dogs in as many years. We brought the last two arrivals back to Britain with us when we moved here.

My wife and daughter like them, but I wouldn't shed a single tear if they disappeared. I don't dislike them enough to try to rehome them, since I'm sure that wouldn't end happily for them, and I'd never intentionally harm them, but I would be happier if they weren't in my life.

They're generally quiet and reasonably well-behaved, but they do have some really disgusting habits.

In Italy they roamed free, as most Italian country dogs do. Even though they were well-fed, they regularly showed up carrying parts of boar and sheep skeletons with bits of rotting meat still attached that reeked with a puke-inducing stench. These days, the worst they can do is rummage around in the flower and vegetable beds outside in search of shit that our cats have buried there. So I guess, as far as dogs go, that's an improvement.

  • I used to love dogs very much. One of my best friends, but thanks to lazy POS dog owners I am starting to hate them. People constantly walk them of leads which makes it hard to enjoy myself at the beach or walk my dogs and the fact that c*nts leave them constantly bark.

I have no patients for untrained dogs from lazy pet owners. My neighbors hate me cause I have had a lot fined for dogs off leash and barking. Getting a security camera was the best thing I ever did

Yes Its normal! Most dogs are just stupid things that run around making noise and because the owners think they are adorable then the rest of the world has to as well

Where I live I cant stand the big mean dogs that are allowed to run around. I dont mind a big dog if he's friendly but if he runs up to me looking like he wants to kill me it pisses me off. If my son gets bitten by one of these dogs the dog is gonna get a shotgun slug to the face.
