I don’t read books (that often)
I find myself reading maybe 1 book every year. I feel it’s affected my growth/intelligence, and I want to get better.. I’ve been reading more. What else can I do?

I used to read a lot of novels and almost anything I landed my hand on until I started law school.
It has deprived me of the joy of reading for just reading.
I used to be a voracious reader before I became addicted to my cellphone.
I think the last book I read was 3 years ago. I was stupid before and I still am. 🤷🏾♀️

You don't have to read the whole book, cover to cover.Read only the chapters/topics that you want learn more about. Also rent books at your local library or buy them used from thrift shops if you plan to read them again.
Unfortunately, not reading books is normal.
Random aside:
It took me a while to be able to articulate why reading books, no matter what the kind, is different from reading anything else. I got it down to this: Authors regularly use words that nobody in their right mind would ever use in real life. As a result, you get smarter by reading books because they force you to expand your vocabulary just to finish them.
Just about every other piece of writing you can find is written with either a layman's vocabulary (forums, texts) or is written specifically to appeal to laymen (news articles, blogs, guides, etc) so they're not going to use big or unused words.
Story authors, meanwhile, will just go ahead and invent words that don't exist if they think it fits the story.
I don't read much anymore either. Going to the library can help inspire you to read more, or a bookstore but a library is easier since you don't need to buy anything. If you find something you like it can be surprisingly easy to get back into reading again.
