I don't like being called honey, darling, sweetie by my boyfriend

It makes me sick, he calls me like that all the time. Sometimes he calls me a little fish or little bird, little bear I don't like that but don't want to hurt his feelings. Is something wrong me?

There isn't a single guy in the world who can literally read someone else's thoughts. And most guys are really bad at reading non-verbal communication cues (something which often causes problems, since women tend to be pretty good at this, and so they assume men are too).

If you want him to stop, you need to figure out a tactful way of telling him that it doesn't make you feel good. If tactful doesn't work, then you need to be more emphatic.

Assuming he isn't doing this just to annoy you - which is possible - and assuming he gives a shit about how you feel, he'll make an effort to break this habit.

You might want to try to figure out why you feel this way about terms of endearment. Maybe you experienced things in your childhood which lead you to feel that guys who talk this way don't genuinely care about the woman they're using the terms with? Maybe you feel that they're demeaning and disrespectful, and what's actually bothering you is how you're sensing that the guy is trying to put you in an inferior position? Maybe you're afraid that he uses those terms because you matter so little to him that he forgets your name now and then?

Except for me. I can read the thoughts of others ever since the 5G got me.

Thank you for your answer. Yeah, I had some difficult past. I am sure he just wants to be nice, but for some reason I am putting myself in an inferior position. People always treated me like a child so It was difficult for me to learn how to take care of myself and be indepentent adult and when he calls me those names I panic, like if he was about to exposure me. It's like my inner child forgets it has an inner parent too. I think I figured it out. Thanks once again.

    Well tell him :/

Not sure why you don't like terms of endearment, but how you feel is how you feel.

Thanks. I guess was having bad mood and instead of taking care of it I was trying to project it on something else/or someone else. I'm working on it

    Does it feel patronising?

It does. Thanks for asking. But still I know he doesn't do that to feel better about himself and there is nothing wrong with those names. It's probably just me and my low self esteem. Anyway I'm working on myself, not letting this unhealthy coping mechanism destroy my relationship.

If you don’t like being called nicknames you should tell him, you should both be comfortable in your relationship, not just him. A strong relationship will not crumble just because you don’t like to be called a little fish.
