I don't want to travel the world?

I do not understand people's seemingly unanimous and socially unquestionable ambitions on saving up for 5 years to go to Germany for 2 weeks. There is little you can do there that you can't do where I am (Melbourne, Australia). What do people do there, get shit-drunk? And sleep in shoe-box hotels?

My dad also had ambitions on travelling all over Australia. That is something I really WOULDN'T want to do, being stuck in some RV with not even 3G internet making long ass trips over broiling hot dusty deserts, for what; to look at repetitive forests and random-ass rocks? Uluru, or Ayer's Rock as it's known to Americafags would not be one fiftieth as popular as it is now without the advent of PR and Marketing.

My dad has also had backpackers work for him to fund their travels over Australia. Seriously? Trekking over this dusty shit-hole doing busywork and having barely enough money for food? I can do busywork and stay and buy good shit.

What gives?

Maybe people just want to see what they aren't used to seeing. Meet different people. I can't understand why so many people come to my tiny town in the summer, but they do. What the fucks there to see here??? I wouldn't care for touristy places though. I would go off the beaten path for the most part. I want jars of sand and sea shells from around the world. I want to see castles. I want to hear people talk with their sexy accents. I want to see different animals in the wild. I want to use funny money. I want...I want..I want!!

People travel for different reasons. I did it to learn about different people and cultures and to experience a different way of life. I enjoy stepping outside my comfort zone every now and then.

If you don't want to have these experiences then don't go.

How could you know? Hiding under momma's wings isn't a good vantage point. But if you are too scared then there isn't much I can do. You are destined to live a miserable yet sheltered existence. Better to be miserable in the real world than miserable in a fake one.

Read Alain de Botton's book: The Art of Travel. You will find out which parts of your travel aversion are normal and which ones are not.

I would only go to certain places in the world: some regions are too dangerous.

If Australia doesn't interest you, try NZ, the shot Lord of the Rings there and the visual beauty of it on tv alone is mesmerizing, everybody should travel, my best childhood memories are from leaving the city for a week or so and going to camps in the bush, you don't realize how cool the outdoors can be til your there

I think it's normal. I love traveling but there are a lot of places I don't care for. My husband wants to go to Hawaii so freaking bad. I'm Hawaiian and I have no interest in going there and 'exposing myself to my heritage.' EVERYONE has been there. And all the obnoxious people that sit there and talk about it all the time makes me think..."If the islands are overflowing with people like you, then count me out you annoying fuck." Whats a vacation when everyone is an annoying tourist?

That's normal. Some people like to travel and some people don't. Just like some people like to fish and hunt, and some people don't. Or some people like meat, and some people don't. Everyone likes and hates different things, so it is completely normal to not want to travel. In my opinion, I think going to Germany would be great. It's about the fun in going new places.

To an extent I feel the same. It isn't like I have a strong attachment to where I am, but I don't have a strong desire to be anywhere else either. Someone once said "there are no geographical solutions to psychological problems", and as far as that applies to me I agree with it.

I disagree. To me there is a lot of serenity to be found in nature and in experiencing different cultures.

Oh my, you seem like you're harboring a lot of hostility here. XD

I travel to see new places and meet new people. Nothing broadens your horizons more than seeing how life is lived in a culture completely different from your own. I don't care so much about money as long as I can eat, and I'd be perfectly comfortable sleeping outside or in an RV. When travelling it's all about the experience, about the connections you make.

I would love to backpack for a year or few, make all kinds of different art connections in different cities and find a lot of new inspirations for my own work.

    Hahahaha :)

I agree mostly. I don't dislike it as intensely as you seem to in your post. I don't hate the idea of travelling, but it's not something I would really go out of my way to do. It's just not something I rate as highly important.

Maybe it's just cos we live in Melbourne, and Melbourne is fucking awesome :D
