I feel guilty using technology

Everybody's so excited about having computers and smart phones and all these other amazing new innovations, etc, but every time I use my iPhone or flip open my brand new laptop, I feel guilty. I mean, nobody else got to have this stuff for thousands of years, so how come I suddenly get to have it? Huh??

It's the technology of our age. In fifty.. a hundred years from now they'll have other things that we haven't even imagined yet. Heck - when cars and telephones were first made they thought those were pretty spectacular then too. People in the past enjoyed what they had, so enjoy what you have in this time now. :)

Please try not to feel guilty. If you can afford it, use it. But if you feel so strongly about having an Iphone, get yourself an old school phone that only makes phone calls.

We have it because technology and people have advanced overtime. We have built on that small base our four fathers have made.

Think about in a hundred years. Some people will feel the same... but you don't mind, don't you? You don't know what we'll be like in a century (semi-robots?).
I really don't care about having better technology than years before.

You feel guilty because of how you are using it, and because you do not know computers as I do.
In reality, technology is a prison like in the movie 1984. Real networks are managed, and people are like children, given certain privileges.
As the United States is further revealed to us as a socialist police state owned by banks and foreigners, you will discover within your lifetime that your playtime is at an end.

1984 is a book by George Orwell...but a hardcore neo-luddite such as yourself would already know that.

Yeah you feel like the technology of today does not belong to this world. It's almost like an aliens or something gave us the technology. Come on look at the majority of people in todays society, they don't seem as advanced as technology they are using...

Exactly - we have computer chips with circuits one micron thick. We have technology that would have made me and my friends cry if we'd seen it 20 years ago. And yet the people who use it are like a bunch of cave people. The technology is advancing rapidly, exponentially, but the people who use it aren't advancing at all!

You mean all those wonderfully daft people on notalwaysright.com and peopleofwalmart aren't smart?
        Shock and horror.

(I agree. The number of idiots with cell phones is mad. If you don't know how it works, you shouldn't be using it.
I spoke to someone yesterday who wouldn't buy a 3D TV 'cause she wants to wait til the 5D comes out -- byebye, education..)

Do you feel guilty driving your car instead of walking or hitching up some horses?

yes i do, actually. i don't want to ride horses, i think that would suck, but zipping around in a car makes me feel like a jerk. Calling people on the telephone makes me feel kind of the same way too, even if it's an old school telephone. We have all this stuff that nobody ever had before. Something's up...

  • Cause thousands of years ago people weren't advanced as we are today..
