I feel like i'm not allowed to get mad?

So, I noticed that whenever I get mad or depressed about something, someone will always get mad at me, and they'll say something like, "Cheer up." or, " This is silly, why are you getting upset?" or even, " I don't understand!"

I feel like I'm not even allowed to get mad anymore,
because every time I do get mad, people will just jump on my back about it and make me feel guilty for expressing my emotions.

So, in a sense, I will just try to bottle up my emotions, bite my tongue and just pretend that I'm not upset.
It's odd because whenever someone around me is upset, I never get onto them about it, I just stand back and let them get out their anger, but yet, I can never do that.

Is this normal?

Punch them! 12

I feel that often someone saying cheer up or calm down is not them stating that the emotions you are feeling are wrong but that they don't know how to react or what to say to make you feel better,
Allthough, have you ever been walking down the street and someone stops and says " cheer up ". I hate those people

    • Nothing pisses me off more than a person telling me to "Cheer up," or, "Calm down." when I am angry/depressed.
It just makes me feel like that my emotions aren't taken seriously.

do the same when they're happy, tell em, aaah, don't be so cheerful, you really have no reason to be such a bundle of joy! it'll pass, don't worry. just keep your head down and you'll feel like crap in no time

If you are normally a very cheerful, super-nice kind of person, maybe it makes them uncomfortable to see you mad, because it's not your normal character. But everyone has a right to get angry sometimes. Good friends would understand that. Maybe you need new ones.

Could you maybe give an example of some events where you do get mad? Because honestly some people are suuuch dramaqueens that would start an issue where it truly doesn't need to be one. Sadly I'm like that with my BF but I do try to tell him to ignore me when I'm acting like a total ass-hat xD

Just excuse yourself and take a time out away from those people. Maybe punch a punching bag if you have access to one. Grab a pillow and scream into it or punch it.
