I find asking religious advice on the internet (mostly) useless

I have given up hope about finding advice online about what religious path to follow. I feel that when you ask, people will only say "The truth is [my religion (or lack of)]". For example, if I ask a Catholic priest, they'll just say to a confused individual to follow Catholicism, but for an Imam, they'd tell the same person to follow Islam. And if you ask on IIN, 90% are just going to say "Religion is bullshit, become atheist" but as usual they're just gravitating them towards their own belief. In the end, I just find any attempts to find religious advice (especially online) to be a waste of time.

Is it normal to feel this way?

  • How about trying to base your beliefs off of your own personal experiences instead of asking other people?

      • The best advice is usually your own.

Each person has their own way of interpreting their religious beliefs, or lack thereof. How do you think branches or schools of thought formed? Anyway, instead of asking others, for you, the best method may be to do your own research. Find your own answers and apply them to your path.

Why not try googling things like "why is (blank) true" or "why is (blank) different" and then look deeper into the ones that make the most sense to you. Don't look for proof per se, instead for whichever one you think most closely matches beliefs you already have or what makes the most sense.

People are narrow minded.. they don't care what your religion is or what you care about. They want you to follow what they believe because they are disillusioned into believing everything they say is pure gold, and they always know better. Its difficult to get an objective decision when people are so emotional and cant see past themselves but that is just how the majority of people are. Very sorry you have not yet come to this reality but when you do you will realize why you are not getting sound advice. Avant-garde seems to have given some very good advice though. I would say to follow that.

Religion is your own journey. I don't think it's something you can easily ask anyone else about and expect to get a worthwhile answer.

it is better to walk your own imperfect path than to follow another persons perfect path.

Here's the thing: each individual person thinks that their worldview is the most valid because it's the collective sum of their life experiences. Religiosity is very much a piece of an individual's worldview, so of course people who take spirituality (or a lack thereof) seriously are going to hole the opinion that their take on the whole thing is the most correct.

I'm a Christian myself. But I've lived in many places, and traveled alot my whole life, and therefore quite exposed to most religions.

While I would easily argue against Atheism and extreme atheists. I find it extremely easy to accept and tolerate other religions.

The secret is to believe that there is a god. And that all the religions of the world, are like Windows or doors that lead to the same truth.

Quoting Gandhi here: (Because he was an extremely wise guy!)
All Religions are True: "I came to the conclusion long ago … that all religions were true and also that all had some error in them, and whilst I hold by my own, I should hold others as dear as Hinduism. So we can only pray, if we are Hindus, not that a Christian should become a Hindu … But our innermost prayer should be a Hindu should be a better Hindu, a Muslim a better Muslim, a Christian a better Christian." (Young India: January 19, 1928)

If you want to search pick up the books. Common sense ftw, by this rate you might actually believe the crap written in them.

I'm not sure what a good answer to your question is if people telling you their views isn't what you're looking for. Ultimately if none of the answers work for you then I'm not sure what anyone can do for you. Of course I'm biased towards atheism. That's because no religion has ever been proven to be true. I'm not sure what extra advice one could give.
