I find ballet dancers snobby and obnoxios

i do street dance and there is a ballet class right next door to it and we see all the ballet dancers coming out in thier pink frilly dresses and tights giving us funny looks and saying that theyre all graceful with thier stupid classical music always looking down on us

Sorry you've had that experience, but that's bull. You sound a bit snobby towards them too. I did ballet for 10 years and now do k-pop as a hobby. There are snobs in every category of everything, everywhere.

  • Their stupid classical music is created with real instruments, and has been around for centuries. The music you people street dance to was probably composed by a fat nerdy guy in a basement on his computer repeatedly pressing a spacebar. I don't much care for ballet, or any kind of dancing, but I'll tell you this much - ballet must take a hell of a lot of practise and dedication because in the ballet world you're either perfect or you're nothing. If you don't respect their genre of dance why the fuck should they respect yours?

I've noticed this separation in quite a few areas of the arts tbh, jazz music vs classical is the example that stands out in my mind- free form, intuitive, improvisational, experimental art vs traditional...but both areas draw on one another. Sometimes, the most beautiful dance, music, art, etc contain elements of both. In my opinion, both have their inherent bueaty...but yeah, I tend to be drawn towards the non traditional.

I studied ballet off and on from ages 7 to 16 and it was probably one of the best experiences of my life next to the 10 years I spent in radio broadcasting. Studying ballet instilled a lifelong love of dancing deep within my heart and soul. My left ankle is pretty fucked up so now I'm doing yoga and I love it.

Now tap on the other hand, wasn't for me at all, but I really love jazz and interpretative dance.
