I find it especially upsetting when christians are hateful

I find it especially heartbreaking when I see Christians being so full of hate. For example, I have heard of Christians wishing death on gays, Muslims, Arabs, etc. and getting lots thumbs up for it. Fact is just a few months ago I saw someone who at least sounded like a Christian wishing that all Asians would burn in hell forever and calling them "animals", as with some others who believe that all whites should burn in hell.

I realize that all hateful things should be treated seriously, but I find it the most upsetting when I see it coming from Christians, since hatred towards other humans is something that is completely forbidden in the Bible, yet I see many Christians repeatedly spewing and condoning it.

I realize that most Christians are not like this, but is this normal to find it especially upsetting when people who call themselves Christians are so hateful?

As a Christian, yes, this is definitely normal. The point of Christianity is LOVE, that's the number one thing; to love everybody, even the people you don't want to love. The fact that this is lost on so many Christians is such a disappointment.

It makes me sad and sometimes anger, but I've gotten used to it. I actively don't go out of my way to spend time with church people. It saves me the aggravation at their hypocrisy, etc.

Ah ha! And so the hypocrisy of christianity is revealed by another, as well.
Yes, on Sunday in church, they mouth the words, but the instant they depart that holy place, they revert to the hateful, hypocritical monsters they truly are.
Love all others unless they are different, or in the way on the road.

    • I wasn't talking about Christianity as a system. I was talking about many individual Christians. None of the Christians I know personally are hateful at all, but I see many online and in news reports that are.

Why? Because I see religion for the hypocrisy it is? And the 'faithful' for the hypocrites they are?
Does it make all you 'true believers' uncomfortable to be called out on the realities of your lives?
If you are religious person, then you are weak, irresponsible and hypocritical.

Only one point I disagree with, the bible is actually filled with hate towards other humans, well okay I'm being unfair, parts of the bible are filled with violent hate towards certain groups

Yes! IIN. The Bible has raised the bar too high above man's evolutionary state. It's supposed to be high, for if not our aims and goals would be lowly. Instead of relating people's behavior to religion, rather relate it to natural tribal behavior. If you were to make a scale with God on the right and Neanderthal on the left most of us fall about half way or to the left. To sum this up...we are all living organisms with a mind of our own. We should be considered unpredictable. Putting an officer's uniform on a monkey doesn't make him an officer. In other words...to some Christians it's just another label, trend, or social group. Maybe they were born into it and church is just a pastime family tradition.

I disagree with you there. I think we all, as humans, have an ethical responsibility to act morally. So it is obviously upsetting, when Christians - or people of other denominations - act hatefully, but it isn't any less disgusting, when my fellow atheists and agnostics are being immoral.

didn't God drown everyone except the '40 year old virgin' guy who built a wooden boat that he managed to fit hundreds of millions of different species of animals on. All sounds pretty hateful and far fetched to me.

A lot of religious people are hypocrites who don't follow their own religion. So, it's quite normal for Christians and followers of other religions to behave this way. Being upset about this is totally normal as well.
