I got so sick one New Years when I went to a Latino friend’s house and they had raw oysters. I was sick for days and didn’t feel well for weeks afterwards. I don’t eat anything raw anymore.
Raw food is, in most cases, a left over of another culture. Sushi is the most famous case of this. A lesser known case would be when select Native American tribes would take a bite out of a deer heart that they hunted. A few modern hunters still continue this practice.
Raw meat is actually the most nutritious meat. Cooking destroys a lot of nutrition value.
The animal needs to be disease and parasite free and the butchering process needs to be clean to prevent contamination. If not, you can get sick.
Raw oysters are quite common - as oysters cannot carry many of the common diseases that certain other meats can.
Beef is usually pretty safe if butchered properly. There are reasons that pork is to be well cooked.
raw is perfectly fine when fresh. i wouldn't really trust store bought meat raw, if you hunted/processed the meat yourself though it's fine
sushi is not raw fish, sushi is seaweed and rice, that's it. You mean sashimi.
I love raw food, but I’ve gotten awful food poisoning from it about 2 times. A bright and shining example is when my ex-boyfriend’s mom’s cooking gave me horrible food poisoning. This was only my 2nd time meeting her, and it happened in Mexico.
I then spent the entire night vomiting in her bathroom until they eventually gave in and brought me to this ghetto af hospital in Mexico...I also tried drinking pesto-bismol which only resulted in dying my vomit pink, which I then continued to vomit into a trash bag while in the waiting room. I’ve definitely been vegetarian off and on for hopefully obvious reasons.
