Odd coincidence... Globophobia - fear of balloons - was the answer an a TV quiz here about 5 minutes ago!
A fellow northerner! Hey!
I stopped watching quiz shows when they cancelled the chase and replaced it with rylan .....
When I was a little kid, I hated balloons because I was afraid of them popping because loud noises scared me. The bigger the balloon, the louder the pop and the more it scared me. I was also scared of the noise of fireworks and of loud cheering at the stadium when my parents took us to baseball games. I also found the school bells too loud when I was in kindergarten and first grade. They still had the old time school bells back then, the old electric bells on the wall with the little hammer. That was before the more modern beeping bells over the intercom that they had by the time I got to highschool.
None of these loud noises I've listed above scared me anymore as I got older of course, this was all before I was like 8 years old. After that, I loved going to games, fourth of July, fireworks, popping balloons, etc. I also started to like sucking the helium out of balloons making my voice all funny.
You seem to have absolutely no reason for hating them. So no, that's not normal.
