I hate my cat!

Okay, I am going to try to make this as short as possible..
I HATE MY CAT!

Reasons why:

1. She does not cover up her waste in the litter box, so my whole apartment smells STRONGLY of poop.

2. She steps in her fresh poop and gets it all over the kitchen floor and carpet of the living room at least 4 times a week.

3. She is mean. Whenever me or my fiance try to pet her she usually scratches us or bites us. It is not play either. She puts her ears back, switches her tail, and gets this crazy look in her eyes that says "I mean business". Even though she is the one who comes up to us.

4. Any time I am in the kitchen she is yelling at me. Even though her food and water is full and even when I just gave her can food.

5. She claws on EVERYTHING. I get onto her, and she will look right at me and do it again until I physically jump up and shoo her away.

6. She pukes on the bed all the time, and ONLY on the bed.

7. I cannot have my almost 5 month old son around her or she will swat at him or glare at him the whole time he is around. I am afraid she is going to attack him when he starts to crawl.

8. She is always fighting to get into my sons room, going as far as to attack our legs to get past (which is intolerable when we are trying to sneak out after spending several hours to get him to sleep). We do not let her in because we do not trust her with our son and she could kill him on accident (she always jumps right in his crib and I have to wash the sheets every time because she is so nasty).

9. She thinks she owns everything. I have a very hard time typing on the computer because the desk is suddenly "her spot" and she will knock off everything so she can sit there. And no matter how many times I push here away she comes right back.

Because someone else (like me) get the little demon. And that is EXACTLY what happened. I rescued a cat and the little (word that rhymes with snitch drove me nuts. I have been around cats before and never have I ever been with one that is as awful as the mean little spitting hissing egomaniac that they tried to pass off as a Maine Coon. I hated her so much that I even started using the C word (which I never used before in my 59 years of life. I am an animal lover, but some cats are not animals. They are psychopathic creeps that need to be feed to the coyotes. Sorry but its the best part of the circle of life. Coyotes have to eat, why not these cats that everybody clearly hates unless they, too are mentally ill.

Get a squirt bottle. When it's being bad, squirt it with warm water. I used this trick for a short while on my cat. He is no longer a pain in my ass.

As for the scratching thing, get this fabric freshener that smells like lemons and oranges. Cats don't like citrus smells or flavors. I use that stuff on my couch. It's usually found in pet stores like Petco, and it's not really too expensive.
*If you don't mind that kind of smell

As for the baby thing, just keep it out. If it's not too hard, put it in the bathroom and close the door. Let it out when you are finished with putting the child to sleep.

I know how busy some parents can be just handling their own children. So if that stuff is just too hard for you to handle, give the cat up to someone who has the time for it.

Your cat is a bitch and is acting out. My cats wouldn't dream of acting that way. If I don't feed them when they come to tell me they're hungry, they start to get irritated and will act out, but only very mildly. Playing with things they shouldn't, etc.

I hate to tell you to get rid of your cat, because if you took her to a shelter, she would most likely be euthanized as they won't adopt out a problem cat. But if she is aggressive around your baby son....and you can't have cat poop on your carpets when you have a baby crawling around....it's time to get rid of your cat.

If you are feeding her a cheap crappy food, switch to something all natural with no fillers, by-products, or grains. Try Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance. You can get it at Petco or Petsmart and it's not too expensive like some other holistic brands. Cheap commercial pet food is crammed with fillers that sometimes makes cats and dogs sick, and since it is only a filler, they poop it right out. If you switch to a better brand, she should actually begin to poop less. She will also need to eat less to get the nutrition she needs. Therefore, you may be paying a little bit more for food, but she will have to eat less of it. Get her on a feeding schedule. You should never free-feed a pet.

Canned food is best for cats. For a long time people thought dry was best because canned supposedly rotted their teeth. This is false. Cats don't have molars, and they don't chew dry food. They usually swallow it whole or at minimum, crack it in half. Cats have a very low thirst drive, and in the wild they get most of the water they need from their food. A cat fed a diet of only dry food spends most of its life dehydrated. That's why so many cats have urinary tract problems. Switch to an all-natural canned food (like Natural Balance if you want to keep your costs down). I usually mix only a few extra pieces of kibble into my cats food, just to give it a little more substance and keep them full longer.

And yes, as Bugaboo said, clean out your cat pan more. I clean my cat pan three times a day. I wouldn't want to go to the bathroom and have to dig around in my old excrement, and neither should your cat have to. Plus, no one wants to go into a house with a nasty, smelly cat pan.

Cats know when they are disliked, they're not stupid animals. Ever notice how if a cat hater comes over, your cat doesn't give him or her the time of day? If you act like you hate your cat, she's not going to love you back.

      Ditto everything Jen118584 says.

Also I would have to say, maybe seek a cat behaviourist or find a good book, as I think maybe you've got yourselves into a vicious downward spiral, and are exacerbating the problems more and more as you get more uptight?

I have 4 dogs and 2 cats, all rescue/re-home, (Plus 3 previous dogs and another previous cat, again all rescue/re-home.

They take a while to settle, and some behaviour has to be challenged, but in the correct way. My then 3 cats, now 2 were/are all very different. They all require different handling, and have changed as they have grown older. None of my animals are perfect, but we work through it in a suitable way.

My most recent addition to the family is a 50k Leonburger bitch, (no, not a cat, but still a good example), entire, coming in from a very isolated background, having spent her first five and a half years with a disreputable breeder, who stuck her in an 8x4 kennel most of her life. She was labelled as aggressive when I took her in from my friend who had originally bred her and had found her dumped back on her.
If the poor dog was out when someone came to the house, been immediately locked out.
She was lunging at people barking, out of desperation.

Poor sweetheart just wanted to be loved. From day one I have had no problem with aggression with her... I have loved her, fed her a good quality food, played, groomed, given treats, and we've got out and done exciting things like swim in rivers, walk in woods, constantly incorporating a little training and shaping unwanted behaviour.

She had no muscle on her when I got her, and had sat to pee her entire life... We steadily built her up, and once she'd got used to having muscle, about sixth months later she suddenly squatted to pee!
      She is a delight.
She's a pretty pushy dog, constantly stepping over the line into the kitchen while I'm prepping food, and whilst I am relaxing she will come a woof-talk to try to get me to go get her a chewy.
She is not without her faults, none of the six cats and dogs are, but then neither am I.

I don't always read them right.
They are all individual, and all have their little things which are annoying.
It can be damn hard work, but so rewarding.

All of my animals have come to me with such background stories. Sometimes when the going gets tough, you just have to take a step back and breath, and try to encourage them away from what they are doing which is annoying you, so they do something nice which you can reward, thereby turning the situation into a calmer loving one, taking you immediately into a better place with your cat. It might simply then go straight back to what it was doing before, so repeat... Repetition, consistency, trying something new when one thing doesn't work or stops working...

If you cannot get your head round this cat after trying all the sensible suggestions offered you, or if you have already had enough, then maybe you need to find someone suitable to attempt to connect with it and give it a new forever home. Good luck x

dont want to sound like an asshole to all the cat lovers around but i hate them in general.(cats that is)
i hate your cat especially simply because your son could get seriously hurt and it looks lie its costing you a lot of money
    have it adopted.
if all else fails simply drive into the closest city and release it there.
i can recommend a "miniature Yorkshire Terrier" as a pet, they are small, almost all of them are very tolerant to children and friendly
i have one and she is very lively (she is 15/16 years old) and unconditionally loyal.
i hope this helped you with your problem =)

First and foremost, squirt bottle if you don't want to declaw (I opted for this, it works with even the most hardened criminals). Treats will also encourage her to be friendlier. For the scratching, I have my own mix of 50/50 orange oil (anything with a high citrus oil content seems to work), witch hazel, and a few drops of tea tree oil. I use a small perfume bottle for even spray, and it works like a charm! Just have good ventilation, the smell can be VERY offensive until it dries. And spot-check fabrics. I haven't had any trouble with staining, even on suede, but you never know. As long as you don't soak the item it should be fine. And trim her nails, or rather take her to the vet and have them do it.

For the box issues, try a different litter and clean it EVERY DAY. My cat would pee on my bed and clothes if I let her box go more than one full day without being cleaned, thank god that stopped after she was spayed. I use Tidy Cats Small Spaces and Breathe Easy, both work great for odors and my cat (who used to drop and run) is much more inclined to bury her poo. I'd also try switching from clumping to non, or vice-versa. Cats are very picky.

I would also highly recommend a checkup to make sure her vomiting isn't a health issue. You can also ask about putting her on anxiety medication to make her chill the hell out, or go to your local petstore and get some OTC calming supplements.

Definitely talk to your vet, if you can't resolve these issues give her up.

  • Bugaboo

Did you get the cat before or after you had the baby? If you got her before, think about how she was before the baby.
Cats are very jealous animals and she may be acting up because she feels threatened by your son.

The poop issue isn't really the cats fault, house cats are going to track their poop/litter everywhere, it attaches to their paws and they can't really help it. Some cats do not cover their poo, especially house cats. Try changing the type of litter that you buy and clean the box more often.

The cat should not be puking! She is puking because she is either sick or stressed. Or she had too much hair in her stomach, even if she is short haired you should brush her often to lessen the hair she will consume while cleaning. The puke is on the bed because she is trying to tell you something.

You mentioned your cat is nasty? Why? Cats clean themselves she should not be nasty, if there is poo all over her feet it is because you don't clean her box often enough.

It is the nature of cats to act like they own everything, they are your master. Cats are naturally mischievous little creatures and it sounds like your cat is rebelling against you.

Indoor cats typically have more problems then outdoor/indoor cats. If possible try to get her to go outside, that way you won't have to deal with poop or her constant irritation. If that isn't an option then try to make her a little more comfortable.

You need to try and assert dominance over the cat but also show her love and let her know that just because you have a baby doesn't mean that you have forgotten about her.

    So a rap up:
Groom your kitty and cut her claws to avoid furniture damage.
When she is invading your space take five minutes to pick her up, hold her in a way that she can not harm you. Then just hug her and meow or blow on her face get creative, trust me it will annoy the crap out of the cat.
Have a feeding schedule instead of always allowing her to have food. This should help with the meowing.
Change the type of litter that you use and clean her box more frequently.
Try to introduce your cat to your child; I know you%%u2019re afraid so take some measures to make sure the child is safe. Get her claws tipped and then buy a cat mussel for initial introductions.
And show her some attention, try not to act like you hate her and she may return the favor.

    Good luck.

      @Bugaboo:

      * My fiance brought her home AFTER I had the baby.

      * I scoop out her box every other day. It is when it is fresh and she "covers it up" that she steps all in it and gets it everywhere.

      * I am giving her hairball medicine. And the vet says she is "okay".

      * She has been evil since the first night she was home.

      * Cannot let her outside, the agency she was adopted from will not allow that.

      * My fiance tried to "love on her when she did not want it" and she flipped out and scratched the hell out of him.

      * I never acted like I hated her until she started acting like a psycho.

you should be cleaning the box twice a day not every other day! that is indeed nasty! my goodess, every other day? how would you like to go in a tolite that was flushed once a day and used many times? get real. still, you are not an animal person. this cat knows how you guys are and is so stressed. did you ever think maybe she was abused before you got her? i bet she was to act like this. i hope some very patient person adopts your cat, don't let it get dumped or killed at a shelter. advertize on pet finder for a person who is really a cat person who will understand your cat. your cats is stressed and has fears.

A cat is not a thing or an it to have around like some kind of decoration that you can discard whenever you lose interest. For those who make the "I hate cat" comments or "kill the cat" comments, these people are typically ignorant and lack empathy or any type of philosophical interest in what a human is responsible for and the decisions that it makes. You do not have to be an animal lover in order to respect and treat all animals and living creatures with humanity (that word is so ironic). Anyways, the cruel comments are typically derived from those who will probably beat, torture, or mutilate anything living, including a baby or child. It is these people that are very dangerous and should keep us all up at night. What is wrong with your husband for bringing home a cat that may have had a terrible and cruel past and into a home with a woman that has no concern or time to spend making the smallest difference in this cat's life. It is sad that she even has a child, who by the way is just as dirty and poopy if not worse than a cat. You just have to clean, love, nurture, and take care of that baby and the same should go for the cat as well. Cats are so misunderstood and unfortunately defenseless against the many morons on this board.

This article was posted some time ago, so, I hope what I say is relevant to someone who still has this kind of problem.

I think the main thing is to develop some kind of comprehensive plan and then keep re enforcing the aspects of the plan that works. It's going to take discipline on your part, but you have to decide if you are going to put in the effort.

Some Ideas based on your description of her behavior:

I would first of all try switching to a premium cat food (the most expensive kinds that do not have corn as their top ingredient) and focusing on her health. Whatever the amount of food the cat is supposed to get maybe cut it in half and go with a 2 meal/day plan.

This may solve the litterbox problem right there. If not there are a couple of things you can try like rewarding your cat whenever it does it right (with praise or treats depending on the cats.)

The plan you work out for your cat might include an extended play time. The point is to 1. burn off some of the cats calories while 2. tiring it out in a constructive way.

Ie. Time you set aside each day to play with your cat. Some aggressive cats respond to aggressive play. For example, I had an Angora that would hiss and scratch a bit when wrestling with my boot. I think you should kind of go with the temperament of the cat and try to find a way to love it.

One way to really tire out a cat is the lazer pen. You can get these for under 2 dollars in my area.

Once the cat is tired out I think that's a good time to try and show it affection. I had a very shy/anti social cat that wouldn't let me pick it up and I found it responded to affection if it was close to sleep. So I just used that time to try and create a bond with it until later she started responding to affection more often.

Finally, some people are just not cat people. They get a cat because they are told they take care of themselves and are the "easiest of pets to manage" and so on. But all pets need a ton of work and love and should be thought of as members of your family. Just like other members of your family they have different personalities including rebelliousness.

It's up to you to decide if you can learn to love that pet's personality.

She becomes even bitchier, tearing up my toilet paper roll EVERY fuckin time I leave it out because I don't have a dispenser. So I gotta hide that, she plays with EVERYTHING that she can move with her paws, and I can't pet her on the back. She only wants head pets, she starts wiggling her tail when I pet her on the back and eventually snaps on my hand. FUCK CATS

no I'm not joking at all. My cat from day one when I got her (6 weeks) has always snapped at me, bites me so fucking hard I've bleed two times just from her bite marks. Getting into my cubbards, knocking EVERYTHING down, biting cords, biting posters on the wall. I've tried using spray water, and my own "psst" noise as a deterrent. I've tried ALL the tricks. SO yeah, at about 5 months then she still didn't stop, I attempted teaching her who the alpha is by holding her down and doing the cat growl at her. I've never beat it. I should throw this cat in the garbage, I've never been nothing but nice to her. She's fixed too btw. I think she is just too primal of a cat.

Honestly, I would suggest giving your cat up for adoption now before she ends up in the pound because she got mad and clawed at your child. Many cats and some dogs should not be adopted by people with small children...a kid who doesn't know any better may swat at a cat who doesn't know any better, and then the cat or dog acts back in defense..and when that happens, the animal gets the short end of the stick (i.e. gets killed for acting in defense). So before your cat ends up being euthanized for acting in self-defense, it might be good idea to give the cat up to someone who would be a good match with her (NOT to the ASPCA, they do more harm than good by euthanizing too many of those poor animals). Craigslist is a good place to go :) Or Petsmart...I adopted my 3 cats from Petsmart, they are completely no-kill.

I really don't mean to sound like an ass about this if I sound like one at all, it's just I LOVE animals (actually, moreso than people) and I'm just trying to suggest something to help the cat as well as your child.

I think this has alot to do with your son, cats get very attached to their owners and now your son has all of your attention, your cat probably feels a little unwanted which is why she is attention seeking. I think you should find someone who can adopt her.

Your cat leaves poop uncovered and throws up in your bed to show you that she thinks she is the alpha. She also scratches you and does all the loud screeching to prove this point. only thing that i can suggest which is going to be gross is try taking a lil of your urine just enough for her to smell and pour it on her sleeping place.

I hate my cat. HATE HATE HATE her. I got two cats, a boy and girl. The boy is ok. He is very friendly, easy to give meds too, uses the scratcher etc. Sure he does annoying things but cats are annoying. However, the girl is a different story. She scratches up the carpet even though I have scratchers everywhere. She doesn't do it while IM watching but I caught her twice. I usually just come home and find my carpet scratched up. She tore down my blinds, just to get her in the pet carrier, she scratches and bites and cries and pees all over herself and it takes 3 people to get her in the carrier and we all end up out of breath with scratches and bites etc. She is real picky on what she eats. She will eat a certain food for a while, then she refuses to eat it, she is scared of everything. I mean EVERYTHING. If I drop a tiny piece of paper, she runs and hides for an hour, and one day my boy cat ran in the house but because he made noise, she got scared and almost took my eye ball out as she ran away. I warn everyone not to let her lay anywhere near face...must stay at knee or below because if she hears any little noise her claws go flying and there goes your eye. She never covers up her poop....ever. She cries all of the time...all of the time. Just meow meow meow but she sounds like she is scared and no one does anything to her. I think she has some weird mental disorder like she is schizo or something. I really hate her. I asked everyone I know to take her but no one wants her. IM going to place an ad for her soon...I cant wait to get rid of that stupid cat.

This is so late and idk if Its even worth it. Haha. I have a kitten about 6 months old maybe 7. Who honestly I have grown to not love him, I actually never grew attached to him. I have three dogs that sadly live with my mother cuz I have no backyard for them. I love them to death. So I decided to get a cat. (Bad idea) I also have a yr oId son.
I guess I wanna ask is it normal for a cat nd or kitten to play with its own poop? I clean it daily only cuz he doesn't go a lot in a day. I have bought him toys after toys but he still seems to want to play with his own shit.
And for your problem I wud get rid of it, everyone is telling u to try other things but honestly u have a child and u dnt need a cat that's gonna harm him or u. Especially since u got the cat after u had ur son. She's not showing jealousy only cuz she never had ur full attention. Granted it might have come from a abusive house prior but the place wudnt have put it up fot adoption if it wasn't suitable.
Cats are complicated animals and only want attention when they want it, I love on my cat all day show him attention but he is still a little horror, chews on everything! Scratches everything but his scratching post. He has prior bit me but hasn't since.
I have thought about making him a outside/inside cat but afraid he will get hit by a car. I have invested to much money to just get rid of him. I am tired of his cat box. What shud I do? I know if I got rid of him I wud miss him.
Is it just a kitten thing and he might grow out of it ir what?
My boyfriend had cats in the past and they were never like him.

no...cats get more annoying the older they get....My cats are 6 and they do decrease their activity level the older they get alittle, like my cats tore down the blinds when they were younger, ate my toilet paper, my one cat loves to eat plastic and he ate half of my plastic curtain on my shower so I had to get a cloth one, they eat my paper, scratch on the carpet, wipe their paws all over the wall after they poop so I have to clean poop off the walls. They can be disgusting...so can dogs. I decided after getting these two pets IM done with pets. IM tired of cleaning up the hair balls they leave, vomit, poop on the walls, paying for damages carpet with pee and scratches, paying for the blinds they tear down, cleaning the littler box and not to mention the HUGE vet bills. My one cat always gets some sickness, he had urinary tract blockage that cost me thousands, severe allergic reaction to shots the vet gave, broke his leg outside,I mean I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on their medical bills and I give them organic food, change their litter a few times a day, change their water every day etc.....yet they still always get sick. My sister feeds her cats 9 lives, gets the cheapest litter she can find and only changes the box once a week, does not change their water every day and her cats NEVER get sick. I just happen to have two sick cats. I adopted them from a shelter. I should have known better

I think you are the problem!! God gave you a brain! Put it to use. He also created animals to live in their own habitat NOT in a home, He created them with a fur to keep them warm, a way to run and jump up in the trees. And crawl in small places for shelter. In addition you can feed it and have a warm bed for it outside. How can you live in that disgusting way! Cats bring different kinds of disease. I think you need your brain checked. You are the one with a problem!! Animals are animals!! They don't require the same living arrangments as humans. Get real people!

Clearly your cat is angry that you just had a baby and the attention is not on him anymore. You have two options, one deal with the problems until he gets over it, or two, give him up to someone with no kiddos who will love him despite his ugly flaws.

Reading your comments is like getting hit repeatedly in the head with a small but painful hammer. I understand the love you have for the feline species but you need to look reality in the face and deal. I have two wonderful cats that I have had to mold into the awesome kitties they are today. If they did not cooperate and were still troublesome, I would be in the same boat as all the other people who can't stand their animals. I love animals a lot, and I hope that my kitties live for 15+ years.
With that being stated, I need to laugh at your constant "judging" of other people concerns about their animals. Although, I do consider human beings as animals, I still believe that human life is worth way more than that of a animal. When you have an animal that will not add anything to the house (meaning they are destructive and mean) and you have tried a lot of things to help develop a relationship, I understand when someone is fed up and want to give their animal away.
I just found it so laughable that you will tell people that they are nasty and not humans because they will not work forever to build a relationship with their animal (why would someone put in outstanding effort on a animal when human relationships don't last long i.e. divorce rate at 45%). Sometimes cats can be a losing battle and just like in humans not every cat/person is grateful, nice, loving, and caring. Anyways, I am sick to read what you think is actually educated reasoning.

I know its a little late to respond but this is my take on things. I'm not a pet person but I don't advocate people abusing or willingly killing and torturing their pets. That is just super sick. A few serial killers like Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy started their reigns of terror by torturing and killing animals. In fact, there is a positive correlation between animal abuse and serial killers. So you either going to live a lonely, sad life because your animal hating and violent ways will lead people to disassociate with you or you will find yourself in a prison cell.

However, I don't think that the feelings and life of a cat should be put above that of children, spouses, family or humans. On the flip side, I think people who advocate this are nearly as sick as those who torture and kill animals and need to seek professional help because they obviously cannot function properly in society. If you don't want to seek professional help then find an uninhabited spot in the forest, jungle or savannah to live out the remainder of your miserable existence with your animals. Society does not need you to function. You need it - even if its just to buy your pet food :)

This woman has a child, who was a part of the household before the cat. Her fiance should have consulted with her before bringing home the cat. However, if he did and she agreed to having this animal in her house and taking care of it than she should be looking for constructive ways to deal with the cat in a civilised manner. If she didn't then he fiance needs to take responsibility. Either way the child's well being comes first, ALWAYS!

I've had my cat for several months and I use to like her and thought she would warm up to people when she got use to her surroundings, but she hasn't and I can't stand her. My boyfriend and I live together and wanted to get an animal we could both enjoy and when he's home or our other 2 roommates she hides. Its like I don't have a cat. She's afraid of anything and everything. A pencil could fall and she'd run. She hisses at our roommates dog, refuses to be around it or anybody else for that matter. She only likes me and I'm sure thats because I give her food. I hate cleaning the litterbox. And on top of all that, she wipes her butthole on my bed and I yell at her but she doesn't get it. I've taken her to the vet and checked her anal glands and checked her for worms, she's fine. Lately I just leave her in the closet, and I want to give her away. Take her to a shelter. I have a $200 comforter I can't put on my bed because of her butt issues. I've even seen her wipe her butt on our pillows, and my boyfriends work shirt. Which I wash all of these right away and you can even smell poop when she does it. And most mornings she likes to come lay by my head on my pillow and all I can think about is her nasty feet she uses to hide her poop are on my pillow right now. And recently she got sick and threw up on my bed which was really gross and I had to take her to the vet. I don't want to waste anymore money on a cat I don't like. Cat food and litter and everything else gets expensive and in my opinion she's not worth it. Some of my friends have cats that I really love. Part of it may be because I got her when she was a year old and she was abandoned outside in an apartment complex. I just think she's gross.

Just think of the difference you could make in her life, sounds like you are continuing her hell. Way to make a difference. By the way, cats are very clean and why have a cat if you think they are gross? She wants to love her "mommy" and you think so little of her that you can't even show her love and you lock her in a closet??? If you did that to a child you would be in jail!! Cats and dogs are very intelligent - more so than pet owners like you.

Your cat is/was scooting, when she rubs her bum on the bed/pillow/floor. When my husband's cats start doing that I will lock them up somewhere in the house too. Its disgusting especially if there isn't anything wrong with her.

I don't see the worth in keeping pets because they don't contribute anything tangible to a household, they are simply leeches and I get one less designer dress a month because of their upkeep. But my husband loves these two cats, which are baleful and the bane of my existence.

I know! I know quite a few people with cats and none of them have such an annoying cat like my girl cat. I don't lock them in the closet but when they get to pesty I either let them outside or I lock them in the bedroom for a few hours so I can get some peace. I live in a small apartment so my pesty girl cat is always near by. I cant wait to move to a bigger place so she can roam further away from me and I don't have to look at her so much. I don't think I will ever ever get a cat again after having her..ugghh
