I hate people who use the word ‘aughts’

It just sounds so pretentious, and I usually see it in the news cycles, people referring to the 2000-2010 period as ‘the aughts’.
Where does that even come from?
I’m more than happy to call it the 2000s, just like we called it the 90s and 80s and so on… calling this past decade the teens is a little weird too, but not as annoying as ‘aughts’.

Aughta do what?

    It's a relic from the early 1900s. After the turn of the century, people would pronounce it "19-aught-4" instead of "19-oh-4". I agree that it feels forced and pretentious when people use it to describe the early 2000s

      Me neither. I knew they used that term from 1900-1909, but I have never heard anyone use that term for 2000-2009.
