I hate physical media (books, dvds, cds). iin?

I hate hate hate physical media. I hate books. I hate DVD's. I hate CD's. I wanted to get into buying records, but I just can't! All that STUFF drives me crazy because I hate storing it. Keeping shit like that means I've got to pay for storage. I try to get rid of more stuff. But, I still have too much stuff. Pisses me off! I want all this media I have to go POOF, gone! Become digitized at once. Digital is portable. I would upload myself to the internet if I could do it.

I wasted a ton of time digitizing a bunch of media. I feel like it's a second job archiving so much stuff. Ahhhh! But, it feels so good to compress it all onto a tiny hard drive!!! Or, upload everything to THE CLOUD!!! I could live in the CLOUD.

Have fun if there's a power outage.

    • lol! I won't care to be reading anything other than whatever fixes the power. Oh, I always have a battery and power generator. I can still access digital. That, and my phone, as long as I've got battery, shall give me internet.

The longest power outage I experienced was a week down South in swampy Louisiana. Almost got flooded, like water inching into the front step, and then the sky parted, sunshine appeared. I had a nice lakefront property until water receded.

I love non-fiction books, I have basically a library of outdated reference books and other materials. You miss a lot by only looking up current information. I like to time travel by reading my old books and magazines...yeah, you can Google something like 'segregation in the US' but you're not going to get the full feel of it without reading the newspapers and reference materials of that time, for example.

    • That was how I accumulated books. Weird me, in college, I ended up with more books than ever, and I kept them! But, after moving around a bit, I'm sick of stuff. I'm going nomadic, so, the less physical stuff I have, the better.

I'm also lazy. I want to just search online. Done. Google Books = searchable. Fine, fine.

I can't say it's not super convenient and I do read online a ton too, but I love my books. There's so much I never would've even thought to look up in the first place if I hadn't seen it in one of my books. I also buy a lot of them for the illustrations and ads. I've finally moved for the last time about 6 months ago so I'm not worried about ever moving them again but yeah, it is a pain.

I love physical books but the other stuff is just clutter.

For me is the opposite. I can have all what I want in digital format but sometimes htere's something I want in physical. I think it's the fucking smell of a new book or dvd. And all the extras. You don't have that in digital.

Definately smell, but I enjoy the tactile feel of a book too.

    • I had this problem. Got sick of packing everything again and again for moving it all. Storage is a pain. So, I've gone minimalist. Digital is fine by me now. I just have to have portable access. Most books aren't collectible. They're just reference, or you read it once, and that's it.

I still have books, but I want to go all out digital. \

Just don't let me see any more Alice in Wonderland books. I'll be tempted!

What about special editions and all of that? You can sell them for a good chunk if you wait enough.

I like physical magazine subscriptions - Handyman, M.S. Living, etc... there really is no equivalent on the internet. Websites are not the same. I love taking a deep whiff of a freshly printed magazine or catalogue. I do have a hoarding problem, though, can't get rid of them.

My only problem was finding a CD that was hidden before my wife found it.

Same for me. I envy people who were born recently, everything they own is digitised now. I'm glad I never got into buying CD's at least, but my game collection will be with me for life.

    • What will you do if your gaming system crashes into oblivion? You'll have a game collection with no way to play it, unless you can fix it.

I sold off all of my old gaming stuff.

I'll still keep all of them anyway, I've had some of them for decades, they're my prized possessions.
