I hate poetry and have a hard time understanding it

As long as I can remember I couldn't grasp poetry.I do find it beautiful but I always had to resort to explanatory guides and internet.I still can't grasp how a flower or some other thing is a metaphor for some other situation.I mean the poet has given no hint about the situation. And it infuriates me that other people can grasp poetry easily.Am I missing out something? Is my brain not normal?Do I suffer from any syndrome

ps:I have brachydactyly(shortening of the fingers and toes due to unusually short bones),does that have something to do with it

I'm not sure someone's interpretation of a poem can be "the right one".

Most of poetry I know is quite ambiguous by design. It is supposed to channel something in you. And the way you understand it, the way you find something in your life that corresponds to a verse in the poem, is not necessarily any less correct than the interpretation of a literature professor.

Not all poetry is the same. I dislike modern poetry without rhythm be anything by Shelley. Some of my favorite poetry is for kids, jack precut sky and shel Silverstein are fun. I don't know if your condition could affect your language development .

i'm exemplary with language and history, but can't understand some of the most basic algebra or biology. my boyfriend is wonderful at building engines and making anything that's broken work again - he's the type who would take something apart like a dirt bike or air conditioner and put it back together when he's bored. he can't understand poetry, he isn't that influenced by music, and could care less about art.

Metaphorical thought is not enlightening for everybody. Perhaps you are a mathematician.
