The image of Irishness is far removed from what the average Irish life is actually like. What's your idea of Irish culture? If it's St.Patrick's day and Riverdance then you haven't a clue and you don't know any Irish people.
An irrational and broad dislike like that shows you up to be a simple bigot. Just like all the other fat and stupid Americans (assuming you're American because of the use of the word 'douche'). Just kidding.

I used to love Irish people. I loved the accent, but then this angry little irish man did me wrong and now i dont care for them. They are all a bunch of alcoholics and have short nasty tempers.

I think the way Irishness has been branded and overhyped is extremely annoying. When something becomes too popular, lots of people tend to want to dislike it for that reason alone. Apparently, St Patrick's day isn't even celebrated in Ireland all that much. Only elsewhere do people make a big fuss over it.
I'm not a big fan of their traditional music and dancing. However, I've met some wonderful Irish people and I'm absolutely crazy about their accents. An Irish woman I used to speak to at work had this beautiful clear voice which was so entrancing I could have listened to her for hours. Perhaps unfairly, often our perceptions of a nationality are shaped by the few representatives of it that we do meet in addition to the prevailing stereotypes.

I don't like or dislike them. Everyone else seems to love them, so I guess, relative to everyone else, you could say that I dislike them too.

It's perfectly rational to dislike the Irish and what they stand for, though one must concede there are some decent and sane Irish people. In general terms they're a horrible race: vindictive, vicious, ignorant, spiteful murdering scum. A lot of the corruption, brutality and bigotry in America can be traced back to Irish immigrants. They sow discord wherever they go and cause no end of trouble. I detest them. Sadly the Americans have elected an elderly Irish bigot as their new president. Trump was an ass, but Biden is a nasty little man in his own right. By the way, I have Irish ancestry, but I disown it.

It's a scientific fact Ireland was created by Satan, so this is very normal.

In my life’s journey, the Irish abroad are very different than in America (like Jews who come from everywhere)...they are stubborn, hot-heads, want to get intimate, very buddy-buddy — brave but also extremely insecure and easily shattered by the damndest of things. Some of the craziest brains (outside of Jews) I’ve ever encountered are Irish — dyslexic, strangely happy almost inappropriately, gross immaturity, drug abuse, little leprechaun gremlins.

I can’t figure them out. I don’t want to. I don’t have fond memories of the Irish-Americans in my past — and no, I would not hire one to work for me, ever.

I've been living in Ireland for a long time and after all these years I find the Irish have a very low mental capacity to deal with anything, even a simple conversation. I'm always shocked when I travel outside Ireland and work with people from other first world countries and realize how backward the Irish are, what I mean is an average American 17-18 year old with a high school education would be far more informed, sincere, lucid and mentally capable than your average Irish person of any age, even those Irish people holding a masters degree or even a doctorate.

Other than that they are a friendly people, and they are very very soft, I mean my grandmother is more badass than their toughest guys.

One more thing, In say,the United States,if a person gets really mad at you they are liable to shoot you or something right? In Ireland when they really get pissed off at someone they stop talking to them! That always cracks me up!

I like most of the Irish people I've met. Maybe their accent gets on your nerves. Certain accents I find irritating bit I try not to hold it against the person.

I actually love Irish people, the ones Ive met are very generous and nice people. My first boyfriend was a gorgeous Irish guy but he was such a player. But, I understand what you mean...that's kind of how I feel about Japan, I find it a strange culture too be obsessed with anime and toilets :D

You'd fit in well in 19th century America, lol.

whats sad is this is also a preveiling stereotype for Germans (other than being a nazi, that is)

I hate American-Irish because they make up sayings like their better than others. Example:Kiss me I'm Irish

Almost everyone is Irish so why do they make up crazy things that make it seem awesome to be Irish?

I quite like the Irish. Nice accent, nice everything, but I don't like how society has made their holidays and culture almost cliche.

Me too! No harm to you but I can't stand Irish music although I'm OK with the Irish dancing - coz I wish I'd half their energy.

I'd say people like the Irish coz we're friendly and talk to strangers and aren't racists! The OP admits to being a douche bag to his / her Irish friends - if he knew them as well as we know each other - he'll only push it so far before he loses his teeth. I'd say we're usually pretty tolerant but don't keep on and on!
