I have saved thousands of texts, chat logs, email for many years

When I changed phone I made a backup of all texts onto my memory card or emailed the log file to myself. I have every text since 2011. Total exchanged texts = 50,000

When I used to chat on MSN messenger and after every chat log got full, I would put it on my backup harddrive. I have every chat log with every online friend from 2004-2012. Total size of files that consist only of text = 149MB

I have every email saved since 2001 but that is just passive since if you do not delete emails they just stay there.

My best friend jokes that I am a creep for saving such stuff. It is not like I ever read them in my spare time

But lately I have realized I live too much in the past which is why I wanted to bring this up

PS: Backing up any of the above is effortless. In my entire life I must have spent not more than a total of 10 minutes backing any and all of it up

I don't think it's common. It's not un normal unless it's some sort of OCD ritual.

Keep em safe. Read them in 20 years or when your old to write a book.

Yeah there are some messages here and there that I wish I could have saved because they brought up happy memories.

I think it's normal to keep things that remind you of good times, and to you maybe these messages are what you have to remember the past.

I don't think what you're doing is normal, but I'm intrigued. I bet Richard Nixon would have approved.

I used to do that when I had a big sad crush on a guy. Therapy helped A LOT
