I knew a family who were incredibly unclean

I knew a family since childhood who were so dirty that you wouldn't even want to touch something that they had touched. Their house was filled with animal excrement, literally covering the floor. The women never shaved and bathed very seldom, like once every few weeks. They smelled so bad it was unbelievable. The grocery store they shopped at once gave them a package filled with soap and deodorant. It was that bad.

Their dogs always had parasites and child protective services was called more than once just that I know of. Their daughter was taken away temporarily at one point and they still only cleaned up long enough to get her back and went right back to living in filth. For obvious reasons I cut them off long ago. Recently I was working with a company making a bid for the trees on their property and had to pay them a visit. It was too cold to stay outside so i stepped in. It was the same old thing with filth everywhere topped with a dead cat that was beginning to smell. I stepped out and vomited and left, refusing to return.

Have you ever known anyone like this, who are so disgusting that you can't even be around them?

An ex friend's house was like this. They'd lived there for 20 years and had never cleaned once, apart from a pathway in the living room so you could sit down to watch tv. Cooker had inches thick dirty fat stuck to it, kitchen floor covered in what looked like compost, windows were mouldy, the bathroom floor was bare wood and rotting away because it was full of piss. The toilet seat had cracked and they sellotaped it back together, and the sellotape bit was full of old piss and shit. The bath was grey and gritty. Every surface was covered in cigarette ends and mouse droppings. I used to feel physically sick when I was in their house. I only ever hung around for a few minutes to be polite, and then I'd leave with my friend as quickly as possible, but even that was enough for me to get a cold or diarrhoea sometimes.

The funniest thing about it all was one day I'd moved into a new flat and invited my friend over to see it. She brought her family (the filthy ones). They all came up to see it. I'd left a cupboard door open because I hadn't put the vacuum cleaner away yet - I'd been cleaning my new place. Her mum said "why have you left that cupboard door open? It's only your first day here and you're already making a mess". I was fucking gobsmacked.

I don't think shaving reflects hygiene.

You are joking, right? How about men with moustaches? Unhygienic? Really?

Facial hair on women is a cosmetic/fashion issue and has nothing whatsoever to do with hygiene.

The same holds true for body hair as well.

It's not good to shave that, wax it instead!

I wax it, but you're right, it's a cosmetic thing, and not a matter of hygiene.

There have to be mental health issues going on for people to live in such filth. Ditto extreme hoarders and the opposite, people with OCDC whose homes are so neat and impersonal you feel as if you've walked into a just cleaned motel room.

Some homes are just cluttered to hell. That is not so bad. I have had a few friends who's homes are cluttered but not gross.

The problem comes when filth is involved. Usually that happens when they have kids or animals that they don't clean up after.

WHY people who live in shit holes don't clean up is beyond me. You go into their houses and the air is gritty from filth, stench, animal dander, piss and shit, rotting food, etc.
You want to say, "Get off your god damn lazy ass and clean up this fuck-hole nasty place".
Alright, it is pissing me off just thinking of how some people live in squalor.

I always thought everyone in Mississippi lived like that.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
    • Probably related. They live in Alabama.

I'm the first to admit that would sometimes let my house get a little cluttered when I was younger, but I can't understand how people can live in downright filth. You can smell the house 10 feet before you walk in. It's not only disgusting, but depressing that someone can live like that in these modern times.

Yeah, my uncle and two of my cousins are in a gross home. The carpets have caked on cat feces, they all smell bad, there's black mold on the walls, roaches, and piled up dishes from months ago. My cousins do nothing to help my uncle. The only thing they're pretty good at is getting arrested, suing others, and stealing from family members. I don't even let them on my property anymore.

So if they were at a job interview and the boss said, "what are your strengths?"

      Would they say "getting arrested"?

Yes my tutor in highschool lived like this. She had 12 kids and like 20 animals. They all shit in the house daily. The house stunk soooo bad it was unbelievable. And these were extremely smart ppl. One of her daughters went to Yale. The daughter was in China teaching kids english at 18. She spoke 5 languages. The father was the city manager of our city. You would think they would be very stupid to live like that, it wasnt the case. They were very christian people but god their house was disgusting.

    • Very similar to the people I'm talking about. They came from a long line of teachers and state/city/county workers. One of them ran for city council. And lost.

My grandmas a packrat and trust me I hated the fact that she would juggle between households my dad uncles and aunts had to take turns dealing with her because she didn't want to have her own home and she refuses to live in a retirement home.
I remembered having to help my dad move her shit in and out of the house when she came and leave.
Have you ever moved year old newspapers that get damp and moldy from being under a mountain of cloths and other materials let me tell you it smells awful.
I've Heard stories from my cousins that say similar things or worse once I turned 18 I made it clear to my dad that I'm not doing that anymore.
