I like cats much better than dogs

Ever since I was young, I always loved playing with cats. I have sensitive skin, and even though their fur often made me itchy, I ignored that so I could be with them. I loved stroking their soft fur and hearing them meow. When they move, they look so graceful and so fluid. Looking into their eyes often brings a smile to my face. So you can see how much happiness I derived from cats. Dogs, on the other hand, I never really got too much joy out of. Their vocalizations never swooned me, their fur (at least the ones I've seen) is too rough, and when they locked on to me and ran I felt like a tsunami was going to hit me.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate dogs at all - I like them too. I love it when they lick my hand and happily pant, I like petting them and I like taking them out on walks on occasion. It's just that cats do it 10X more for me.

Is this normal, fellow IINers?

Cats are generally represented as soft and dogs are generally represented as rough. It's a stereotype, but that's the representation. Both can be positive traits, which means pet preference can be used as heuristic test for aspects of personality.

I like roughness and chaos and gracelessness more than sophistication and calculation and grace, which would mean you'd expect me to like dogs more. And I do :) I identify myself with doggishness far more than cattishness. So it works for me.

I also love rough collie chaos, they have super model good looks and the clearest, most beautiful bark!

Everyone has their preferences, I'm bipetual myself. I would love to get either a Poodle or a Shetland sheepdog as a canine sister for my Siamese dream.

I truly love and cherish having a dog- like cat; it's the best of both worlds for me. I honestly can't imagine being forced to choose cats over dogs or dogs over cats. They're both such unique, intelligent, loving and loyal companions in their own ways.

Although I will say, "Siamese if you please", because I'm not especially fond of the stereotypical aloof, overly independent and untrainable sort of feline. Whether it's a dog or cat I need an animal companion who's extremely intelligent and loyal. My best friend, Andrew is a doting and athletic lap cat. Now if only we had the right dog to share life with.

Just one thing, never neuter them, we have no right to control their population, and the more cats the better :).

      • Sorry, but neutering is absolutely necessary.
Not neutering pets leads to a huge stray cat problem, and animal shelters have to keep putting them down.
And don't worry about them "missing out" on sex.
For cats, sex is not a pleasurable thing. The male has barbs on their penises and it constantly scrapes the vagina of the female when they mate.

    • Yep. I like chickens too. Both in their living, clucking form and in their crispy fried dead forms.

I prefer cats, too. Most dogs, (not all, but most) either bark and/or growl at me, bite me, try to attack me, or avoid me altogether. People's obsession with dogs annoys me. One night when I was walking back from my clubhouse from working out, I couldn't see because it was dark and I stepped in dog poop because someone didn't clean up after their dog. I was really pissed. Cats kill bugs for you, and you don't have to worry about them having to go outside for a walk to poop/pee if it's storming, freezing cold, or snowing. Everyone says cats are stupid. Not true, they are just stubborn. And cats do love their owners, they just don't show it the way dogs do. They don't sell out, you have to earn their love. And they can be protective, too. There have been cats who have attacked people and dogs because they were trying to protect their owners.

One thing a cat owner has to accept is that cats love food more than you. But thats about it, cans are very good pets indeed and do care about you, a little less than food but they still do. They kill rats for you, play games for you, brush against your legs and all. There was a news few months ago about a cat saving its masters life from fire in the house (dogs have been known to do too, but this news proves that cats care for you). I loved my pet cat whom I had as a kid, though no longer do :'(. I still feed stray cats when ever they come to my house, and have befriended them. Even if those cats love food more than me, I love them any way and know they still care about me. yes I am and adult, a straight man (some idiots think cat lovers are gay), but I still love hugging, holding, cuddling and even kissing cats, specially the cute little kittens. Cats are my most favorite animals in the world and nothing can change that. Just one thing, never neuter them, we have no right to control their population, and the more cats the better :)....

Did you know that the average person who has an obsession with cats has a moderate form of Aspergers? It's a true fact, found that out while studying Psychology/Austism awareness.

I personally don't like cats. Cats don't offer a lot, they don't seem to be as nice to pet, they aren't as playful, don't seem as smart half the time in my experience and they aren't at all adorable. Sorry for the disappointment.
