I like to playfully bully my dog, is this normal?

Sometimes when I am playing with my dog I like to playfully bully him with a couple punches here and there (not hard, Im not mean) and occasionally tell him Im going to kick his ass. He enjoys it, and so do I. Is this normal?

Yes. Completely normal. I have a bulldog and he can get quite rough during outside playtime so he'd better expect to get some back.

Wow!. A normal question on a website full of posts about piss-drinking midgets who whack off their dads...

I have now seen it all.

Your best to whack them round the nose with rolled up newspapers, much more fun and affective.

yeah, or i know my 12 year sister does that with our older cat. she actually has a weird love hate relationship with him but even when he does nothing to make her mad she will still push him down to the ground, pick him up and throw him, etc. and we used to have a dog, and even though she loved her, she would still pick on her too and run around the house screaming at her just to scare the crap out of her

So long as you both have an understanding that what is happening is PLAY fighting, it's actually normal and a VERY healthy bonding exercise for your dog.

In natural environments wolfs and dogs often play fight, wrestle, play tug of war and run around in order to build pack relationships, strengthen bonds and exercise.

I wrestle and play fight with my dog quite often and we both enjoy it. She can sound and look very aggressive along with bared teeth, nipping and loud vocalizations of growling and barking.

However, with a single word, in this case, "done!" and she switches out of her play fighting mode within a second or two.

That's just how dogs work in a healthy pack environment. It's not abuse, it's not harmful and it's not cruelty if it's done properly with an understanding of how DOGS play and interact socially.

I do that with my dog all the time, the funny thing is, they are both daschunds, so there not all fun. But since I always let them win in the end and go all alpha male on me, it might be a problem, because we just got a German shepard puppy. Should be interesting..

I do it all the time too. As long as your not actually hurting your dog, and know how much it can take while still having fun its fine.

Make sure you win though, don't need your dog getting all dominant with you.

My dog is big ol' fucker that's half wolf, half rotty.. It can take a lot and dish out a lot, but is fucking fun to fight with. :P

There is a part saying they both like it it's not like he's taking a sledge hammer and smashing the dogs brains out.

if you have a dog that is anywhere over 40kg then i strictly advice no play fighting ESPECIALLY if the dog lives in a family with young members. Play fighting is a form of dominance to try see how much you dog can get away with and if HE is the alpha male/female. IF you do not have 100 percent control as you being the alpha, some breess are stborn, then do not play rough games and get the dog to a trainer or it could turn out bad. I have been dealing with large breeds all my life and i cannot tell you many stories of PLAY fighting that has gone wrong due to stupid owners not making it clear to the dog where his place in the pack is. I currently have a BIG ROT 56kg and still growing! i have trained him since small he waits for his food or toy that is right infront of hin till i give the comman OK. He sits, lays down, rolls over, gives me paw, plays dead wen i shoot him :), fetches AND i walk him OFF leash believe it or not as i have complete trust in him. (ALL TRICKS TAUGHT BY MYSELF ASK FOR MORE INFO) There is though a slight problem as he has what is called food aggresion which is very common i have bought many books and spent countless amounts of time and money on trainers with no luck. Though i am able to go near and take his food off him, he lets no one else. We deal with this simply by putting his bowl down and walking away. Anyway i never play fight with my dog and nor does my family we feel it is for the best. We do still have fun going swimming in my pool, going to the sea playing fetch, and he loves biting my bike tyres wen ever i take it for a spin haha his flattend both it ten minutes flat. plus we now have a new member to the family we found this little girl sitting by the bus stop alone. now 8 months we though she was only going to be small shes almost the size of my rott! Ha shes very hyper and wont leave him alone she tugs my big dogs ears pulling at it literaly and chews on his legs lol but my rott is the most calm and patient dog in the word even when she pins him on the floor and grabs chunk out of his belly lol well i cant blame her my rott was a big bully when she was small! My rots name is LOLLO which means like silly in turkish i think, nd my girls name is PONGI :D well if you got any questions just massage me nd soz this dragged on alot lol

Yup. Perfectly normal; as long as you're not abusing/hurting the dog. I have a 64 pound Cur and she likes to play rough. She's all muscle and apparently has a high tolerance for pain, (she has been stung by hornets, wasps and scorpions and never yelps or backs away - she just keeps snapping at them - crazy dog!). We wrestle a lot, she play-bites with me and we play a pretty rough game of tug-o-war with her ropes/toys. If she gets too rough, she almost always will back off with a firm, "no." On occasion, I'll alpha-roll her when she doesn't seem to be settling down or obeying commands. She's a tough cookie!

As long as you're not hurting your dog, abusing your dog or by playing that way, training it to be aggressive; then you're fine.

Of course! If that's the way that you and your dog play together, then let it be! Have fun, just don't hurt him alright ;)
    Cheers.

Hey dipshit dogs are not fucking pussies they won't fucking get knocked out by somebody playfully bulling them it's not like he's fucking shooting them or something. And how is it animal cruelty if it even says ''i like playfully bulling him and he likes it too''.
