I love animals but tortures insects

I love animals in general and can't bear for most of them to suffer. I would even promote animal rights and conservation if I can. I love everything cute of course. There was once when my pet hamster was dying, I tried all means to nurse it back to a healthy hamster. When it finally died, I was devasted.
However, I also have a thing for torturing insects or even lizards. For instance, I drowned/scalded a lizard with hot (not boiling) water and fed it to my turtle. But I also remembered when I felt sorry for a lizard stuck in a glue trap that I released it. I would also use a glue gun to pour hot melting glue onto nasty cockroaches.
So is this normal?
