I love random encounters in rpgs

I know many RPG gamers hate random encounters, that is when an enemy-infested area you encounter enemies randomly as you progress. Personally, I love them. Of course, I don't like it when the rate is way too high like encountering an enemy every two steps or so. But if the rate is just right, like it is in Final Fantasy 7, I love them.

I've recently been playing Bravely Default and it's a pretty good game.

I wasn't all that fond of encounters since my Pokémon days because they were annoying until I found out that I can easily level up with them! So, I learnt to like them.

I feel mixed about them. They are a staple that I grew up with, but they can be very annoying. Not every game has an item that can repel them. A lot of my favourite games seem not to revolve around that system. I'm seeing more and more games that don't have a random encounter system so, I think it is being phased out.

Not a fan either. I don't hate it, but I never liked it. It's the perspective flip-flop that bother's me. You see yourself walking down a road/corridor/whatever then suddenly monsters. Where did they come from? I could see like 6 tiles ahead down the hallway, how come I couldn't see the undead bison?

In a slightly different type of game, where you don't see yourself walking around, and instead just click "explore the forest", etc I don't mind getting a random encounter at all.

  • Been playing Final Fantasy X for a while now. I used to ghate random encounters but since trying to level up to beat those fuckin' dark Aeons I've learned to appreciate them. Lol.

Totally normal as it's a staple of turn based rpg's, I just can't get into it, I've owned lost odyssey for about two years and I can't bring myself to play it anymore, I like the world and I love the stories told through the thousand years of dreams, each one tells a really deep and often surprisingly moving story that helps you learn more of the characters and worlds but I roll my eyes every time there's a random encounter, I hate it and I hate the turn based combat, its something I want to like though but it's not for me
