I'm afraid of sitting with my back to a full room

A dozen years ago I was playing poker in a private home. My back was to the door. Four masked men came through the door, one carrying a shotgun. Since i was the one with my back to the door, my head was the one that had a shotgun held to it while the other three took everyones money, phones and shoes.

I don't think much about it and I never felt that my life was actually in danger, but I can't sit comfortably in a room if my back is to people. That means I always have to sit with my back to a wall in a restaurant, or with as many of the diners in front of me as possible. I need to know where the exits are, to. Anyone else have this phobia?

    Sounds like you have PTSD.

You sound totally normal. Having a shotgun held to your head will make a guy a little paranoid.

Never had anything anywhere near that traumatic happen to me, and I've always preferred to sit with my back against a wall.

The dangers we face in daily life are largely overstated by the media. but it seems very sensible to me to make a habit of always checking out exits when going into a new place.
