I'm afraid of talking to myself

I don't know why, I'm just extremely paranoid that someone will hear. There is no one home for 2 and a half weeks and I really want to do some recordings because my writer friend has been asking for awhile. I've only ever been able to record in the car, with the music on, and best if it's raining very hard. is it normal I'm so afraid of talking to myself???

when i am by myself if i have an old memory pop up in my mind i'll respond by saying something, such as, (laugh) i know right? that was great!

i think its fine to talk to yourself if no ones around. if someone is around, who the hell cares?

    • Yeah, I know there's nothing wrong with it but I just can't do it, I don't know why but I wish I could.

  • There's been times where I've been talking to myself in my home and I'd turn around and my brother or someone else would be standing there. It makes me feel mortified. So I can understand the paranoia but if you're by yourself it's nothing to worry about.

    • Yeah, that's what I mean is when I'm all alone I just can't do it. it feels so weird, but I want to know how to get over it. I used to have what is now called selective mutism, as well. so maybe it's something to do with that, but I'm not afraid of talking to people anymore, just myself. I don't know why..

Would you be able to tell me more about your selective mutism? As I think I have it too. Perhaps in a private message.

I have the same problem. Lots of people do.
