I'm annoyed how people are freaking out over the coronavirus?

People are really paranoid and freaking out over this virus like they're going to get it easily and it's really getting annoying.

Go in a store and water is almost sold out, saw people buying water like it's the zombie apocalypse.

At work, one of my coworkers was sneezing and probably has a cold and some of my coworkers were telling her to get tested for the virus and wouldn't go near her. Said she should go home because if she has Corona she's going to "kill everyone"

This is too much

Better to over overprepared vs underprepared. If nothing happens those people have 2 weeks in security food and water. I live far enough away from population centers to not be particularly vulnerable to the infection itself. Just the reprocessions of the chaos.

Yeah, the media's done a good job with this one. It's also crushing China's economy. They're forecasting a recession in China. Christ, even a 6% increase in GDP was seen as a bad year for them!

Your chances of catching coronavirus outside East Asia are negligible. Your chances of dying from coronavirus inside even China are negligible

I work at a school of 5th grade to 12th. My work load has doubled wiping crap down for something less dangerous than driving in to work.

It's called hysteria. People love it and are irrational. The first thing they do, when a potential virus is in our midst, is call a meeting and lock everyone in a room for hours to discuss the virus response. THE WORST thing you can do.

    It's all bullshit.

Holy shit that sounds horrible. I agree with the water bulking on though. Hopefully those people will be smart enough to store it in case it's ever actually needed but alas that's probably not the case.

Are you a teacher or a janitor? I didn't know this about you. Worse part is you cant just say you did it and be done with it. So glad I dont work in a place like that. Outside of iin I've never even heard the word mentioned

        Hahahahaha @ "a teacher or a janitor?"

And about hearing the word, I haven't heard it as much but I've been crossing paths with a lot of Asians wearing masks here in Paris. I should've worried more about my phone than the corona, nobody would've stolen the virus from mah pocket hahaha!!

Yeah, I've had a shit day. Hence I'm here to share my misery and spread it on random posts and answers! hi y'all LOL

I'll bet that in the usa the number of people who die from coronavirus will be far outnumbered by mass shootings, but far too many people in that country seem able to live with the latter.

I don't understand the stockpiling of water: how would the virus affect water supply? There's been panic buying in some Australian supermarkets of both food and water, apparently because one medical official recommended those at risk make sure they have enough food to keep them going for a few weeks if they have to be quarantined. Not a bad suggestion, but surely being quarantined wouldn't prevent stores or friends or family delivering needed food and leaving it outside the door?

Some sections of the media in Australia (and I'll bet elsewhere too) are disseminating fake news and half information which is presumably getting their ratings up and creating panic amongst people guillible enough to believe them.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying considering that we are now heading towards a recession for no reason other than fear. The Russians did an excellent job of spreading fake news about the virus.

The hysteria is also fucking up the stock market and yours and my retirement savings. Be scared of the flu (annual) not corona. The flu kills thousands every year in the US alone. How many have died from Corona- 1 in the US and 3000 worldwide?

    how uninformed can you be?
Do you really think china kills
    1 per 50,000?
That they fear a war over another tianamen type incident.
That the crowd would rush the shooter?
    Study reality:
China locks up and kills people at random.
Its far worse then 1 per 50,000.
Who exactly would china fear a war from?
Most of the world has become so dependant on china that realistically they can do as they please.
    Rush the shooter.
    That just doesnt happen.
Because knowone wants to be the first to take that bullet.
That allowed the concentration camps, the khmer rouche,
    ( forgive spelling )
    and current prisons. World wide.
A few people with a few guns can totally control large groups of people.
    Am I wrong?

People should be worried about general chaos. The stocks are dropping. Buy them up now while they are so cheap! When this blows over you are in a position to make so much money. If the world ends who cares if you lost 10k in investments.

I use to think like you until I had a kid. The corona virus is killing the young and the old. Its not that big of a deal for someone in their prime to get it but they could pass it on to their kids and the kids could die.

Ricen poisoning gives the same symptoms. Its possible. It makes you wonder tho what are the chances theyre lying about the numbers and more young healthy ppl are dying

China probably doesn't kill THAT many people. They kill a lot relative to US elites. They probably kill 1 per 50,000 yearly. Just enough to instil fear in people, not enough to pull another tiananmen square protest (they wouldnt pull that again out of fear of war)

People dont realize how good it is to have free speech in most western countries. In most countries you dont have that and you can be jailed for speaking your mind.

But yeah I dont see what benefit they would have to kill the Coronavirus doctor. If they were mad about him causing panic by releasing the information then they obviously dont want there to be mass panic. Him dying created more panic than his whistleblowing. Seems like it wouldnt be in their best interest for him to die but who knows.

You forget on how petty countries can be sometimes. China is one of the prettiest countries there is. Even if the doctor stated the alarms that's enough just to kill him. China has killed people over a handful of rice.

Its something that can kill people, people get scared.

Someone can have a glock, shoot 14 times and still a crowed of 2000 people will run away even though there is only the 1 bullet left. Its that mindset of "it could be me"

If the entire crowd knew that there was only one bullet left they would rush the shooter. The deadly thing is that they dont know if there are more bullets coming nor how many shooters. That simulates a decreses in survival if you fight or stay there so the logical thing to do is run.
